“I shock myself each and every day,” Kamaru Usman spoke about his comparison with Georges St Pierre

Kamaru Usman and Georges St Pierre
The UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will be entering once again inside the Octagon to defend his title against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. In his last fight against Gilbert Burns, he broke the record for the most number of consecutive wins in the division.
This record earlier belongs to one of the greatest UFC fighter Georges St Pierre; during his recent interview with MMA Junkie when Usman was asked about doesn’t he feel weird that he broke one of the UFC’s G.O.A.T record.
Kamaru Usman says, “I wouldn’t say weird – Because, like, when I got into this, I had high expectations of myself because I don’t do anything half-a**ed. You know, I strive for perfection. And even if I don’t attain that, I still, you know, attain excellence. And so, I don’t, I wouldn’t say it’s weird to me.”
“I would just say it’s surreal because when you say this is what I want, and you speak it out, and then you do the work that it takes to get there, and then you’re actually getting there, taking those strides – I shock myself each and every day.”
Kamaru Usman continued, “I shock myself when I go to sparring because I‘m nervous. Even to this point, when I go to sparring, even though I know all these guys, I know them well, I am still nervous when I step in there to spar these guys. And then after sparring, I shock myself like, ‘Wow, I did that well with Justin Gaethje. I did that well with this guy. Justin didn’t kill me today”
“You know, like, you know, I survived. And so, it’s always surreal to me when people start to kind of, you know, putting those things out there – Because when I was young, I just couldn’t really imagine how this was going to come to fruition. But I knew I had dreams of being great at something.” (*H/T Sportskeeda)
Kamaru Usman is planning to fight at least two more times this year

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman defended his title against Gilbert Burns at UFC 258 in February and now he will defend it again in a rematch with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. But the champ isn’t willing to stop only at this he is looking to fight at least two more times this year.
Usman says, “Just like I felt after the first fight with Masvidal, I just didn’t feel like I got my fix. I was like, ‘You know what? I’m healthy, I’m not getting any younger, why not?’ Because of the one thing I can’t get back in time. Why waste this much time filming a show that I don’t end up fighting towards the end of the year.”
“At this rate, God willing, and if I’m blessed with the ability, I can get two more in, to be honest with you. I could get two more in, and right now that’s three in nine months. I could possibly get two more in, but we’ll see how the body holds up.”
