Japanese motorsports legend Kamui Kobayashi is one of the most accomplished racers in the world, who has raced in most of the premier racing series in the world. Over the years he has started races in Formula One, World Endurance Championship, LeMans, Super Formula, Super GT, IMSA, Formula E and in 2023 he even made her stock racing debut.
Kamui Kobayashi raced in the NASCAR Cup Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Toyota team 23XI Racing, owing to his TRD connection as the veteran has been the star driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing for years. Recently during the 24 Hours of Daytona race week where he will drive for Wayne Taylor Racing, he shared his dream of racing in the Ovals.

“I want to race an oval race at one point… I think it’s going to be very hard to (race in NASCAR) this year… I want to get more experience in that.”#Rolex24 pic.twitter.com/U6cK5U2XKv
When asked about his potential plans for a third race start in the 2025 Cup series, with COTA 2024 being his latest, he confirmed that he doesn’t have any plans yet. He hasn’t signed for any new projects yet but is open to making another attempt in the premier stock car racing series if he gets an opportunity.
Kamui Kobayashi claims he is quite busy with 2025 projects
In the same conversation, Kobayashi also talked about his projects for the 2025 season. He asserted that he has busy schedule for this year and admitted that a potential NASCASR entry would tough to fill in. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to a start.
It would be interesting to see the veteran would ever get an opportunity race again in NASCAR, considering his first two starts were disappointing despite the mega hype. Currently he is focused on the WEC championship chase with TRD.
