Former World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, praised the two stalwarts of Indian cricket after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ended their ICC trophy draught after 11 long years. He compared Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the duo of Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.

Both Sharma and Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is after the end of the World Cup. Dev remarked that Indian cricket can’t replace these two players in the shortest format of the game. They have the same legacy as MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar has had and Team India will definitely miss their services in the shortest format of the game.

No one can take Virat and Rohit’s place in the Indian team in any format. They have been huge servants of Indian cricket, and it was a happy farewell for them. The stature that Virat has made of himself in all formats, he will surely be missed in T20Is. Both are the same as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. They are irreplaceable.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been indispensable servants of Team India

Both Kohli and Sharma ended their T20I careers in style after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Sharma became the second Indian captain to win the T20 World Cup trophy. He also won the trophy as a player for the second time after he won his first in the inaugural season in 2007. On the other hand, Kohli won the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time in his career.

Sharma and Kohli are the two of the most most leading run-scorers in the T20I cricket history. The Hitman has smashed 4231 runs in 159 games with an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 140.89. He has also smashed 5 centuries in the T20I format.

On the other hand, King Kohli has scored 4188 runs in 125 T20Is with a stunning average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04. He has one century under his name in this format and that came against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2023 to break his 3-year streak of not having scored a century in international cricket.

Kohli has been a phenomenal performer in T20 World Cup history. He single-handedly carried India’s baton in the T20 World Cup 2014, 2016 and 2022. He struggled for runs in this edition in 2024 but stepped up on the day of the final when India needed runs from their legend.
