Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, has been facing a lot of criticism and pressure for his underperformance with the bat and also his team’s recent losses in Test cricket. Sharma demoted himself to the middle order at number six in the recent Pink ball Test in Adelaide but scored in single digits in both innings. Fans are criticizing him for his inability to perform with the bat in the longest format of the game.
1983 World Cup-winning former Indian captain, Kapil Dev has backed Sharma and said that he does not need to prove anything to the critics. Dev talked about the stellar career that the Hitman has had over the years and asked the critics to not doubt him.
Moreover, he wished for Sharma to get back into runs in the remaining three Test matches against Australia.
The Indian captain has featured in six Test matches in the ongoing season and has a poor batting average of 11.83. This average is the second-lowest batting average of a captain who has batted in over 10 innings in the top six.
Under Sharma, India were whitewashed for the first time in a Test series at home since they started playing Test cricket. India lost the home series against New Zealand 3-0 and now lost the second Test against Australia under him. He missed the first Test in Perth which India won by 295 runs under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah.
