It was the Karim Benzema super show at the King Abdullah Sports City as a hattrick from the Frenchman coupled with collective brilliance saw Al-Ittihad obliterate Al-Wehda. With a 7-1 victory over Al-Wehda, Al-Ittihad, who rode high on the brilliance of the former Real Madrid marksman, maintained their perfect start to the latest iteration of the Saudi Pro League.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the hosts as early as in the 2nd minute of the game, curling a screamer beyond the extended reach of Ignacio de Arruabarrena. Benzema came all guns blazing in the second half, scoring within a minute of resumption. After a captivating display that expunged Al-Wehda, Benzema ensured to notch up that crucial hattrick to complete the route for Al-Ittihad.
The Frenchman’s final strike came from a clinical delivery set into the stride by his teammate Moussa Diaby, and Benzema made no mistake in nudging the ball home. Surprisingly, apart from Benzema’s hattrick, the former Aston Villa star delivered four crucial assists, laying the bedrock for Al-Wehda’s destruction.
Benzema also had help from Houssem Aouar, Fabinho, Fawaz Ali Marzouq, and Saleh Alshehri, who scored one goal apiece to help Al-Ittihad continue their dream start. This was Benzema’s third appearance in the season, and he already found himself the fourth goal. He scored his first goal of the season in the last game against Al-Taawoun.
Last season, he registered nine goals from 21 appearances while laying the foundation for seven goals. More importantly, Benzema pulled off the antics despite being amidst a rift with Al-Ittihad that led to a lot of rumours of his exit.

The fans were quick to spot that the French striker still had his charisma going, and his predatory instincts inside the box made him a superstar. With the French duo of Benzema and Diaby coming alive, Al-Ittihad will be hoping to continue their dominant run in the ongoing season.
Their next clash is going to be a crucial one against their closest pursuer, Al-Hilal, who are level pegging in terms of points in the ongoing season. However, a superior goal difference between the two sides will witness Al-Ittihad continue to dictate proceedings.
