British tennis player Katie Boulter successfully defended her crown at the 2024 Nottingham Open as she beat Karolina Pliskova in the final on Sunday. However, the Briton was not so happy about the fact that her boyfriend did not come to support her in the important match. Boulter scolded Alex de Minaur for not showing up at the Nottingham Open final.
As Boulter and de Minaur never miss out on a chance to come to each other’s important matches and support each other, the Briton expected her Australian boyfriend to do the same on Sunday. However, de Minaur could not attend the match as he played and won a final on Saturday.
But Boulter was in no mood to discount the Australian over this excuse. She scolded him during the on-court interview and joked about looking at the future prospects of the relationship as de Minaur could not fulfill her wish to see him in the stands.
My boyfriend didn’t make the trip even though I thought he might after his win in s-Hertogenbosch. We will have to be talking about that tonight and see if we’re still gonna be together. I hope he’s listening to this because we’ve got some talking to do.Katie Boulter jokinlgly threatened Alex de Minaur.
Alex de Minaur calls Katie Boulter “a joke”
While he did not attend the Nottingham Open final in person, Alex de Minaur was glued to the screen when Katie Boulter was in action against Karolina Pliskova on Sunday. The Australian was then jumping for joy when his girlfriend successfully defended her crown.
De Minaur also called Boulter “a joke” as he expressed his happiness at her win through a post on social media. The Australian tennis star was in disbelief that Boulter won the title for a second consecutive year.
How did that happen again @katiecboulter You are a joke!!!Alex de Minaur posted on X.
Notably, Boulter beat Pliskova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final. In the semifinal, the Briton beat compatriot Emma Raducanu in a tightly-knit match. She beat the 2021 US Open champion 6-7(13), 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, her boyfriend de Minaur beat Sebastian Korda in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4 to win the title at ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
This is the second time this year that de Minaur and Boulter have won a title at the same time. In March, the Australian won the Acapulco title before bolting to San Diego to see his Boulter, win a WTA trophy the next day.
