Katy Perry is famous for being vocal about the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. She decided to kick off the celebration of Pride Month by taking a dig at Harrison Butker.

On Saturday, June 1, Perry uploaded a modified version of Butker’s speech at the Benedictine College on May 11. The 39-year-old’s clever edit is now a tribute to the Queer community.

Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride.

In his speech, Butker was heard explaining the ‘diabolical lies’ women have been told by society about being homemakers.

For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives.
Katy Perry’s version had Harrison Butker saying

The heavily edited video switched the wording of Butker’s original speech drew so much criticism throughout the country. Some even called it derogatory and hateful toward women. Perry carefully re-arranged them to sound as if the 28-year-old was encouraging women.

How many of you are sitting here [now, about to cross this stage], and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you're going to get in your career? I would venture to guess the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world
Butker continued in Perry’s edit

Interestingly, Perry restricted comments on the video, which is close to 180,000 likes on Instagram.

Harrison Butker’s speech divided opinions

Following the Kansas City Chiefs placekicker’s controversial speech, the country divided into two obvious parts. One side was angry and demanded punishment for his supposedly misogynistic views and the other side morally supported Butker, claiming he was exercising his constitutional right of free speech as an American citizen.

While the NFL washed their hands off from taking any responsibility for the speech, Butker received backing from celebrity thinkers like Whoopi Goldberg, and Bill Maher.

There was even a division among his teammates. All-Pro tackle Chris Jones tweeted in support a couple of days after things escalated. However, both quarterback Patrick Mahomes and star tight end Travis Kelce seemed not too pleased with the negative publicity the speech brought.

The Chiefs were already in a sticky situation because Rashee Rice, Wanya Morris, Godrick Jones, and Isaiah Buggs were arrested for separate reasons. Butker’s situation just adds more to the chaotic Chiefs offseason.
