Kevin Garnett casts doubt over Kawhi Leonard's future following injury report

The Los Angeles Clippers season hasn’t even started, and they are already looking down the barrel with the latest injury reports on Kawhi Leonard. The 6x All-Star has been sidelined indefinitely to rehabilitate inflammation of his right knee.

With uncertainty over the future of the injury-riddled forward, NBA legend Kevin Garnett feels like it’s time for the Clippers to get ‘real’ with Leonard On his Ticket and The Truth podcast with Paul Pierce, Garnett stated that he believes it’s time for the LA Clippers to sit down with Leonard to discuss their future.

‘The Klaw’ just signed a $152 Million extension in January earlier this year. With three more years left on his contract, Garnett believes that Clippers and Leonard should have a ‘real’ conversation to determine what’s best for both sides.

Garnett, who dealt with a number of injuries towards the latter half of his career, stated that he believes Kawhi Leonard should focus on himself first. The 33-year-old forward has suffered several injuries over the last few years. Given these injuries, the Big Ticket was concerned about the future implications of these injuries for Kawhi’s body.

Over the last few seasons, a number of injuries to his right leg have forced Kawhi Leonard to miss nearly 164 games for the Clippers. With NBA Veteran Kendrick Perkins recently casting doubts about the toll of Leonard’s injuries on his body, it might be time for him and the Clippers to make some hard decisions for the future.

Can James Harden make up for Kawhi Leonard’s absence?

With Kawhi Leonard sidelined for the foreseeable future, the load of carrying the Clippers team to playoff contention will come down to their other All-Star, James Harden. Harden himself has dealt with many injuries over the last few years that have often sidelined him.

But the former League MVP will be entering the 2024-25 season with a healthy offseason under his belt. With a surrounding core sprinkled with new roster additions like Kevin Porter Jr., Kai Jones, and Derrick Jones Jr. the Clippers still have a solid roster. However, The Beard will have to bring back some of his Houston flair to help the team.

Harden will have to carry a heavy offensive load in Leonard’s absence. With the Clippers’ season opener less than a week away, there are many questions that the team will need answered. But first off, some heavy-handed decisions await Coach Ty Lue and Owner Steve Balmer.
