Kawhi Leonard is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the league when healthy. That last part has become a sticking point for the Los Angeles Clippers star throughout his career.
This season, amidst all the accusations of under-the-table sponsorship deals, the 2-time Finals MVP was motivated to make the most of the team that the Clippers put together.
Last season, the franchise was booted out of the first round, even though they pushed the Denver Nuggets to 7 games. This campaign was supposed to be better, with new arrivals, Bradley Beal and Chris Paul, who would help the team get better.
Despite those additions, the Clippers have struggled to a 5-13 record, with their latest loss coming at the hands of LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Before the game, head coach Ty Lue suggested that when the team’s top players are out, they do not have the quality of players to step up. When asked about this after the game, Leonard said:
Just gotta get the right lineups on the court, I guess. Get some more talent. Play with better talent and see what happens.

“Just gotta get the right lineups on the court, I guess. Get some more talent. Play with better talent and see what happens.”
Is that talent internal?
“I’m saying like playing better. Like we all just gotta play better. Make shots…” pic.twitter.com/H4JUJ9Cmf9
After this reply, reporter Joey Linn threw a follow-up question to confirm what the superstar meant by ‘better talent’. Kawhi Leonard reiterated that he would prefer if the team had better players around him.
Fans tear into Kawhi Leonard for ‘need more talent’ comment
The problem with this reply is that the question was directed at Kawhi Leonard, as he and Bradley Beal have missed considerable time in the past and this year.
Instead of owning up to his health issues, the 34-year-old followed his head coach and seemingly pinned the blame on the front office for not getting players who could help.
Fans felt that the 2-time NBA champion should have been ashamed of shifting the blame, especially when he has not managed to stay healthy for the team. Check out examples of those reactions below.
He got some nerve for a dude that never plays lol

Missed 10 games already this year, averaged 52 games played in 5 years, plus add the year he missed. Started season hanging a cloud over team with off court endorsement, and has audacity to return from latest injury and say I need better teammates! I think they need a LEADER! https://t.co/YJAOb2uKPt

Clippers got 3 Hall-of-Fame names and still playing like a G-League expansion team.

Kawhi Leonard has missed 10 out of the 18 games the Clippers have played this season. If they are to improve, their leading superstar has to be on the court, and that was what fans commented on.
Gilbert Arenas details what is wrong with Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers
After watching the manner in which the Los Angeles Clippers lost to the Lakers, the cast of Gil’s Arena started to discuss what is fundamentally wrong with the team.

Kenyon Martin and Rashad McCants suggested that there are too many old players on the team, who are not contributing. Then Gilbert Arenas said this:
Kawhi is more of an iso type of player. How James is, he’s going to hold it, throw it, y’all just shoot it. I think him and Kawhi, that one-on-one player thing, it’s just not in sync.

The former All-Star believes that having two isolation experts in Kawhi Leonard and James Harden is becoming a problem for the team. If they are dominating the ball most of the time, the others are not able to contribute.
