The Los Angeles Clippers led by Kawhi Leonard and James Harden seem to have found some rhythm lately. The Clippers recorded a convincing 118-101 victory over the Utah Jazz at the Intuit Dome on Thursday night. Leonard has had his injury struggles this season as well as he has missed 11 games already. But the two-time NBA champion has been on a tear over the last few games and scored 45 points on Thursday.
The win propelled the Clippers to 11th, and they have jumped ahead of the Jazz in the Western Conference standings as both clubs have a 12-21 record at the moment. It was the Clippers’ sixth consecutive win after a disastrous start to the 2025-26 campaign.
The Clippers were in a disastrous position not so long ago. They were in a disastrous position with a 6-21 record and several pundits called for them to blow it up and hit the reset button in the offseason. To make matters worse, the exit of club legend Chris Paul who was on his second stint in the club reflected poorly on the organization. The club continues to struggle with injuries to their main players and are struggling with a long-term to Bradley Beal.
When healthy, Kawhi Leonard is one of the best players in the league. Leonard is currently averaging 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists. However, he has been averaging 39 points during their six-match winning streak.
James Harden has had a scoring resurgence this season, averaging 25.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.9 assists. The Clippers will be hoping that their two stars can stay healthy and help them qualify for the postseason.
Leonard is known for staying away from the cameras and the public eye. But he showed his funny and light side aimed at Harden on the big screen during the Jazz game on New Year’s Day.
Happy New Year. And I have a New Year’s resolution for my teammate, James Harden. I want to see if he could eat food without getting it in his beard.

The Clippers have started the New Year with a win and have been turning their season around slowly. If things continue this way, the higher-ranked teams in the West would want to avoid the Clippers in the playoffs.

The Clippers are not yet a good team
The Clippers’ winning streak began on December 20 when head coach Ty Lue said the team’s goal heading forward would be to go 35-20 in their remaining 55 games of the season. They kicked it off with a win over cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, and have won their next five games since.
There is still a long way to go for the Clippers to call themselves contenders, especially in a stacked Western Conference. Leonard spoke to the media after the win and said they still have steps to take.

We’re still trying to get better individually and as a unit. We might not be contenders but we just gotta keep fighting… We still got steps. Good teams are top-8 or above. We’re not there. We’re below .500, so we’re working our way up.

The signs have been promising for the Clippers, but it remains to be seen whether Leonard and Harden can continue to produce the numbers they have lately as they try to climb up the Western Conference standings.
