Professional Fighters League champion in 2019, Kayla Harrison addressed talk of a potential fight in the future against UFC ace Amanda Nunes. However, she stated that as long as the same comes to fruition, she does not want to discuss it. She also admitted to being annoyed by the huge hype surrounding a fight between the two.

Two of America’s best fighters, a fight between Harrison and Nunes has often been discussed by fans and experts as one that would be closely fought. The former has never been defeated in her MMA career while Nunes’ abilities are well-known as she has made a case for herself to be considered the greatest of all time. Even as talks of a fight continue to rage on, the two haven’t talked too much about it and yet, haven’t ruled out the possibility as well.

Kayla Harrison was asked by MMA Junkie of talks about a potential fight against Amanda Nunes. The 30-year-old began by expressing her disappointment at being mentioned at the post-fight address after Nunes’ win over Megan Anderson at UFC 259. “I feel like, goddamn – she just won. Like, literally just won. Give her a second to breathe,” she said.

Speaking about Nunes, Harrison said, “We’re teammates, so of course I don’t want it to be weird at the gym. I really like Amanda. I really like Nina. Again, she inspires me. Nina inspires me. Nina is back in the gym like three months after popping out a baby, and she’s kicking ass, and I’m like, What the … ?’ So, I mean it’s just a little annoying because of that, but again, what am I supposed to say? Of course I aspire to be like her. I aspire to be that, so it’s an honor to have my name thrown into the ring. It’s an honor for people to say that, but all in due time.”

Talking of how a fight between the two could turn out to be, she said, “At the end of the day, when you step on the mat, it’s your job to go out there and find a way to win,” Harrison said. “So for me, it’s the same thing she said: It’s not personal, it’s business, and if our paths cross, our paths cross. It doesn’t have to be nasty. It could just be a beautiful display of sport, and then sportsmanship, you know? We could just go out there and put on a full display of our skills. May the best woman win. It could just be that.”

With neither of the two ruling out the possibility of a fight, it remains to be seen if the dream match-up comes to fruition some day.
