On Friday, Keegan Bradley just managed to make the cut at The Players Championship. Following his hard-fought battle in the second round, the golfer opened up about the difficulty in moving on from the Ryder Cup defeat.

The Ryder Cup has been a rollercoaster ride for him. After two appearances as a player in 2012 and 2014, he narrowly missed the 2023 squad as he was not picked up by captain Zach Johnson.

The decision not to pick him sparked some debate as the USA suffered a massive loss against Team Europe in Rome, Italy. After their defeat, the team would relieve Johnson of his duties as team captain.

The name of Tiger Woods would come up in discussions as the next captain. Eventually, the United States would name Bradley as the captain for the 2025 edition at home in New York.

Ahead of the event, Bradley himself was in contention for a spot. Following the comeback victory against Tommy Fleetwood at the 2025 Travelers Championship, there were several discussions about him being a playing captain in the event.

In the end, the former PGA Championship winner decided against it and guided the team from the sidelines, instead of playing out on the Bethpage Black Course.

Once again, Team Europe started strong. Bradley’s team’s decision-making was questioned as the visitors took command of the tournament.

Despite a strong fightback in Sunday’s singles action, Bradley and his team suffered defeat. This sealed back-to-back triumphs for Team Europe.

The defeat has left a huge mark on Bradley. While speaking with the reporters, the 39-year-old claimed that he still thinks about the Ryder Cup.

It’s been a little difficult. I’m still heartbroken from the Ryder Cup. So trying my best to separate myself and move on, but it’s hard. I think about it a lot.

Keegan Bradley told the reporters

In the first round of The Players Championship, Bradley carded a score of 77 following a disastrous start. He shot a score of 9 on the par-5 11th hole.

He needed a big push in the second round to make the cut. Following a bogey on the first hole on Friday, the eagle landed for him on the next hole.

He proceeded to make 5 more birdies and finished the round with a score of 66. This was enough for him to make the cut at The Players Championship as the cutline was 2-over par while he was 1-under par.

Keegan Bradley open to take Ryder Cup captaincy again

The Ryder Cup captaincy clearly meant a lot to Keegan Bradley. Despite the heartbreaking defeat, the 8-time PGA Tour winner is ready to take up this position once again.

In the past few weeks, the name of Tiger Woods has once again come up in this discussion. Before the Genesis Invitational, the 15-time major champion admitted that he was asked about this role and claimed he was unsure about it.

According to a report from AP, Woods has been given a soft deadline to think about this and make his decision.

As per that report, Woods was also the only candidate. If the 50-year-old does not pick up the role, the U.S. team would have to turn their attention somewhere else. Bradley did express his desire to be back, but admitted that it was something that was not up to him.

I mean, yeah, sure, I would, but I don’t know if that’s in the cards for, yeah, I think any Ryder Cup captain that loses would like to do it again, I would imagine. But that’s not up to me.

A few days back, Luke Donald announced his return as the captain of Team Europe. With two successive triumphs, the former World No.1 is looking to guide his team to a three-peat of the Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.
