This offseason, the Chicago Bears not only built hype around their starting quarterback by drafting Caleb Williams as the first overall pick, but also created an unbeatable wide receivers trio with DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and Keenan Allen. To their luck, things went pretty smoothly throughout the offseason and practice drill as they began training.

Fast forward to the training camp, the veteran receiver shocked everyone by showing up at the camp with an added 20 lbs to his weight. For most of his career playing in the NFL, Allen has maintained a good 211 lbs, but this is the first time he went overweight and it seemed to have affected his performance in the preseason.

Allen is widely known for his shiftiness and exceptional route-running skills to create separation at all three levels of the football field. And since Allen had never known for his athleticism, adding nearly 20 pounds to it– he is creating a major concern for him, which has already started showing in the preseason game

Judging from the former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver’s performance in Saturday’s practice session, he has become significantly slower compared to his old form. Although the preseason doesn’t hold immense value among fans, Allen is inclined towards the coming regular season to prove how the team has strategized.

Caleb Williams’ preseason debut raises Bears’ Super Bowl hopes

Even though the 11-year veteran Allen was reportedly slow in the preseason because of his weight, the Bears’ star quarterback Williams’ performance in the preseason has increased the fans’ expectations. With him in the center backed by a strong offensive team, the rookie has the potential to lead the team for at least a run for the Super Bow.

We're going to be explosive. We're two rooks, but we're trying to catch up to the old guys as fast as we can to make sure that we're right there on par with them to be able to be efficient, function, go out there and be explosive, be on the same page and win games. That's ultimately what we're here to do.
Caleb Williams said about his duo with fellow first-round pick, Rome Odunze

In his first preseason game, the rookie signal-caller recorded completing 6 of 13 passes for 75 yards and a rushing touchdown. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus also appreciated Williams’ post-game for the flow of the game he led. Compared to last season, Chicago is in a much better place and is likely to reclaim their contender status.
