Hailie Deegan was one of the most promising female stock racing talents over the last few seasons. When she landed a Xfinity Series seat with AM Racing in 2024, many in the racing community were expecting her to finally establish herself as the future of the sport. But things went south for her, resulting in her losing the seat over poor5 performance midway to the season.
She has now switched her stock car racing career to IndyCar, with her debut set for the Indy NXT series for 2025. Amidst the controversies around Hailie Deegan. Her father and motor racing legend Brian Deegan made a comment that NASCAR isn’t ready for a successful female racer. In the latest episode of “Herm & Schrader”, ex-racer Kenny Wallace discussed these claims.
He asked co-host and fellow racer Ken Schrader about his opinion on his topic. Schrader defended NASCAR in the debate and pointed out that the sport is ready for the next-successful driver. He pointed out that NASCAR community really wants a female racer winning a race as big as the Daytona 500.
Ken Schrader use statics to explain why there isn’t any female star racer
While further talking about the point, Ken Schrader pointed out that there are thousands of good racers throughout the country and most of them don’t make it to the top tier. The female racers make just a small portion in the list, and so the chances of one of the racers making it is really low.
The comment from Schrader shows it’s not the gender barrier, but the sample size that is the real reason for lack of female drivers in the top. The sport still has a female racer to root for in Toni Breidinger for 2025 and it will be interesting to see how she will perform next year.
