Super Bowl LIX ought to have been a bittersweet ending for Drake. As the halftime show was scheduled to be headlined by Kendrick Lamar, there were a lot of doubts if he would perform his hit diss track of the Canadian rapper “Not Like Us” due to the language restrictions at the Super Bowl.
However, Kendrick Lamar did not disappoint. In a halftime show that received largely mixed responses, there was one part that all fans agreed was just perfect. That was Kendrick’s transition into performing the diss track.

The 17-time Grammy winner stood on the stage and said “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue,” taking a jibe at Drake for going after Universal Music Group over its backing of Not Like Us. He then went on to tease performing the song a few times before he started rapping.
Kendrick Lamar left the offensive lyrics of his diss track for the crowd to chant
The track calls Drake a ‘pedophile’, a word that would not be acceptable to utter on the Super Bowl stage. However, Kendrick Lamar did not have to utter the words himself because the entire crowd was so in on the performance that they matched his energy and the words that he could not say, they said it for him.

The most humbling moment for Kendrick, and an insulting one for Drake, would be the moment the entire crowd shouted “A minor” and the rapper let it ring out. How does one come back from that?
Kendrick capped off his performance by illuminating the words ‘Game Over’ onto the crowd behind him. Drake can at least be glad that he considers the beef to be over.

Kendrick took a different route than his predecessors, who have made it customary to bring surprise guests onto the stage. This time, Kendrick kept the focus on himself and SZA. Notable appearances were made by Serena Williams who was part of the dance crew while Not Like Us was playing and DJ Mustard who produced the beat for the hit song.
