Memphis Grizzlies star man Ja Morant does not seem to leave the headlines anytime soon, after his recent celebration during an NBA matchup. Morant in his game against the Minnesota Timberwolves pulled out a grenade celebration. Now, the Grizzlies star has a bad past with celebrations after the league fined him $75,000 for his ‘finger-gun’ celebration.

However, fans know Morant for his bad-boy character in the NBA, and he came up with a new ‘grenade’ celebration, where he throws a grenade in the crowd and covers his ears. Now, another basketball star Kendrick Nunn hopped on this trend. In a recent Greek basketball league for the Panathinaikos, Nunn pulled out this celebration after scoring a 3-pointer.

One may know Nunn from his 2019 days in the NBA. He got drafted by the Miami Heat in 2019. Not only that, Dunn also played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards, spending 4 years in the NBA in total. After that, he moved to the Euroleague and signed for Panathinaikos. Nunn has been an important player for the Greek side.

Interestingly, these celebrations done by the two stars have caused a lot of controversy in and around the NBA community. Some fans and analysts have also shared their takes regarding this matter. Some feel the star should be charged over this celebration as well.

However, Morant is trying to find a new cele that does not offend the NBA rules. Now, with Nunn backing him, it looks like the NBA star might use this celebration going forward.

Ja Morant and Kendrick Nunn had a chequered history

The two stars of their generation, Ja Morant and Kendrick Nunn share a fiery past during their rookie years. There were many good players in the 2019–20 rookie class. In their debut NBA season, several people were able to influence their teams. After everything was said and done, Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies won the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

However, Nunn came in second in the voting but had a huge gap in the points. However, the former Heat player was not happy with Morant winning the accolade and made his stance clear on it. He spoke to Alex Kennedy of BasketballNews and claimed that he should have won the award instead.

Of course! Of course I should’ve won. I mean, if you think about it, [when have we seen] someone who was under the radar and who nobody knew and then they win multiple Rookie of the Months and has a season like that? It’s really rare for an undrafted player to perform like that and have the kind of season that I had. Obviously, it’s expected that a lottery pick — the No. 1 pick or No. 2 pick or No. 3 pick — will win that award. So, just from a ‘shocking-the-world’ thing, I feel like I should’ve won.

However, their average performances in their rookie year state something else. Morant edges the former Heat player in that aspect. During his rookie season, Nunn collected 15.3 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.7 boards per game. As for Morant, he put up 17.8 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game during his rookie campaign. One of the main reasons Morant won the ROTY 2020.

Ja Morant clarified his new grenade celebration

Ja Morant is not one to settle down and his recent celebration is a clear example of it. Despite being fined for his former celebration, Morant came up with a new one. He is not one to mince his words and made his views clear on his new ‘grenade celebration’ after his match against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

That’s my celebration now until somebody else has a problem with it, and I’ll find another one.

His statements were typical of Ja Morant. In addition, he also clarified his views on the celebration claiming that he’s taking his words and throwing it ‘out there.’ As long as Adam Silver and the NBA don’t have a problem, Morant may well and truly use this celebration for a long time in the league.
