- Kendrick Perkins criticized the Cavaliers, calling them "soft" and comparing them to "hostess cupcakes."
- He stated that Donovan Mitchell is under the most pressure in the playoffs, as he has never led a team to the conference finals.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are on a good run at the moment. With the playoffs approaching, the Cavaliers registered an impressive 122-116 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at the Rocket Arena on Wednesday night. After going down by seven at halftime, the Cavs had a strong third quarter that took the match away from their opponents.
Prior to their game against the Hawks, former NBA champion and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins had a few tough words for the Cavaliers.
The whispers around the NBA is that the Cleveland Cavaliers is soft. They’re sponsored by hostess cupcakes because they creamy in the middle. I’m looking at Evan Mobley.

Kendrick Perkins never shies away from speaking his mind and is known for some of his wild takes. His latest statements were a dig at Evan Mobley. The Cavs power forward was drafted by the Cavs as the number three pick in the 2021 NBA draft and has grown into one of the most important players in the squad. Last year, he was an All-Star and also won the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
At the trade deadline this year, the Cavs made the biggest move by trading for James Harden for Darius Garland and a second-round pick. It was a move that surprised many. But it has worked out well so far as they have gone 19-6 since his arrival.
The win on Tuesday for the Cavs sees them extend their winning streak to four games. They are 0.5 games behind the third seeds, the New York Knicks. Currently at fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 51-29 record, the Cavs are assured of a top-four finish this year.
Kendrick Perkins believes Donovan Mitchell is under the most pressure
When the Cavs traded for James Harden, it was a move to make a mark in the Eastern Conference this year, while some may disagree. Harden joining forces with an elite scoring guard like Donovan Mitchell is expected to make some noise in the East. The move for Harden signifies that the Cavs are going all out to win a championship very soon.

According to Kendrick Perkins, Mitchell is under the most pressure in these playoffs.
He’s under the most pressure out of anyone in the NBA. A Donovan Mitchell led team has never, ever, made it to the conference finals. He will go down as one of the greatest regular season players ever…. One could argue that the Cavaliers has done more for Donovan Mitchell than what they did for LeBron James.

While Harden may not be the player he once was, he has shown that he is still an elite guard. Meanwhile, Mitchell continues to put up impressive scoring numbers as he is averaging 27.8 points per game.
Kendrick Perkins’ controversial defense of James Harden’s playoff losses
There is no doubt that James Harden will go down as one of the greatest scoring guards of all time. He has an MVP to his name, three scoring titles, and two assists titles to go with it. However, for all his achievements, he has often come short in the playoffs and has been criticized for being a shell of himself when it matters.
Kendrick Perkins weighed in on Harden’s legacy, and his argument centered on his playoff misfortunes, caused by none other than the dynastic Golden State Warriors.
The time that he was running when he had those runs in Houston, he ran into the same problem that Bron ran into. He ran into something that Bron couldn’t get past. This is what I will say.

While he has had quite a few meltdowns in the playoffs during his career, Perkins does make a valid point. He has often faced the Warriors in the latter stages of the playoffs. It was a team that even LeBron James struggled to beat; hence, Perkins believes it is unfair to criticize Harden for not having won a ring yet.
