Kendrick Perkins received backlash from Nicki Minaj's fans

ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins just had his ‘wasn’t familiar with your game’ moment. Every now and then analysts regret their opinions and have to apologize publicly. Big Perk had to face one if it wasn’t for an NBA player. Despite undermining Jimmy Butler‘s trade to the Golden State Warriors, the analyst did not get a reaction from the athlete. Instead, Perkins got into hot waters with rapper Nicki Minaj‘s fans on social media.

Barbz is one of the most dedicated fandoms in the music industry. The fans always go to lengths to support and protect their queen Nicki Minaj. Kendrick Perkins was unaware of the strength of the fanbase before he downplayed the rapper for Jimmy Butler. Hence, naturally, the analyst faced a huge backlash from social media. Things got to a point where Big Perk hilariously had to apologize from his official X handle.

Wish I would’ve known about the Barbz before my Nicki Minaj take… don’t charge it to my heart. My apologies, I don’t want no smoke!

The 40-year-old was not happy with the ex-Heat star playing alongside Stephen Curry. The former player believed that Dubs would eye for a bigger fish than Butler. The disrespectful statement expected fire from the ‘Jimmy Buckets.’ But Perkins made the mistake of putting Nicki Minaj below Taylor Swift and Beyonce.

Perkins might be right about his expectations from the Warriors. Butler is in fact an incredible player but the team had to trade Andrew Wiggins for him. Notably, the stats of the two players this season are not far away from each other. Adding a bigger superstar would have made Curry’s job easier. But undercutting Minaj was not the best idea for Perkins.

Kendrick Perkins ranked the Warriors 4th for Jimmy Butler’s destination

Since their 2022 championship, the Warriors have been struggling in the NBA. The team lost many important pieces including Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and even Chris Paul just after one season. The biggest stars in the league such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo all have another big player beside them. As that is not the case for Curry, Perkins wanted Butler as his teammate.

It was quite clear that Butler wanted out from the Miami Heat. The star was not happy and was facing back-to-back suspensions from the front office. The 35-year-old was in desperate need to switch teams. To make his job easier, Perkins a week ago, during NBA Today gave ‘Big Perk’s Big List’. The analyst added all the potential destinations Butler should consider. Among them, he ranked the Dubs at four.

I believe that Jimmy Butler was out there right now checks that box for Warriors and give Steph some help.

Perkins admitted that Butler would benefit the team by winning another championship. However, he ranked the Warriors quite low, below the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies. Hence it was unsurprising that Big Perk was upset by the Warriors’ decision. Instead of Butler’s growth and personal achievements, Perkins was focused more on the improvement of the Dubs’ roster.
