Ex-NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins picks Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for MVP over Nikola Jokic, compares him to Michael Jordan and Steph Curry
Nikola Jokic still comes out as the no.1 choice for winning MVP this season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic
OKC Thunder has been unbeatable this season, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deserves all the big credit for that. With an average of 30.1 points per game, the Canadian player is a strong candidate for MVP. Even former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins believes Gilgeous-Alexander ought to take home the trophy rather than Jalen Brunson, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic.
In a tweet, Kendrick Perkins stated that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is receiving his share of the MVP vote. Not only that, but he also made comparisons between him and former NBA players Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan. He claimed that SGA is better than players like Nikola Jokic because he is leading the second-youngest squad and the team’s top seed in the Western Conference.
Jokic, Luka and Brunson are all deserving of the MVP... but Shai leading the second-youngest team to the best record in an absolutely STACKED Western Conference while putting up numbers like MJ and Steph did during their MVP seasons is the reason HE is the MVP of the league!!! It's also the reason why @shaiglalex got my vote for MVP!!! Carry the hell on.Kendrick Perkins on X
Perkins outlined all the reasons why The Glide should win MVP, even if Nikola Jokic appears to have a stronger chance. However, the fact that he brought up the names of Bulls legend and Warriors icon gives his claim to be the MVP significant weight.
Who deserves the MVP award: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Nikola Jokic?
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a strong candidate for this award because he has been leading his team to the top seed. Leading the squad and scoring 30.1 points per game, however, is still not enough to qualify as MVP when Nikola Jokic is the opposition. Without a doubt, Nikola Jokic deserves the MVP award for the third time in his career based on his performance this season.
The Joker has received support from both media and fan polling, with big names like Stephen A. Smith, JJ Redicka, and Bill Simmons siding with Jokic.
With 57 wins and 25 losses this season, the OKC Thunder and Denver Nuggets have performed similarly. Jokic plays with elite players like Aaron Gordon and Jamal Muray, while young guns surround Gilgeous-Alexander like Josh Giddey and Chet Holmgren. Thus, there are certainly significant differences in the atmosphere where the two players are playing.
