The NASCAR community have been on their toes from the start of this week, with the charter lawsuit trail getting uglier each week. Most of the drama were the product of witness testimony from the likes of Denny Hamlin, Bob Jenkins, Heather Gibbs and Steve O’Donell. The latter made some major revelations of the sports’ finance that got ex-racer Kenny Wallce’s attention.

In the court while responding to the questions from the lawyers senior NASCAR official Steve O’Donell revealed that the sanctioning body lost around $60 million for hoisting just four races. The Chicago Street race that featured -three races lost the sport around $55 million. A massive loss incurred to build a new base in one of US’s biggest cities.

Then there was the Mexico City race from the 2025 season that earned the sport a loss of $6 million. Going international, the logistics as well as the losses the team suffered might double this number. The veteran Kenny Wallace seems really unimpressed with how NASCAR took care of the business and urged them to focus on issues back home as well as making the legacy fans happy.

Stay your lane and get things right at home. Quit trying to venture out and get new. We got problems right here in River City. Let’s make the people that love us happy.

Kenny Wallace said via his YouTube channel.

He demanded more accountability from the sport and urge them to stop making decision that is costing the money, as if they are losing the teams are losing more. The court haven’t revealed how much the experiments like the clash races at the LA Coliseum cost the sport, as well as the Bristol dirt series race affected them.

Quit losing money, and let’s take care of the home base first. I think that would be a good start.

Kenny Wallace asserted.

Steve O’Donnell revealed why NASCAR raced despite the loss and Kenny Wallace won’t be happy

In the court when cross examined about why NASCAR decided to continue racing in this venue and go international, despite knowing about the loses. He revealed that the international races helped the sport to rope in prominent TV partners.

O’Donnell called it a strategic investment and pointed out that of not for these experiment races, they wouldn’t have gotten the massive $7.7 billion TV deal they signed with Amazon Prime as one of the sponsors.

It was a strategic investment because if not for that, Amazon would not have become a broadcast partner… We would not have been in Mexico City (in 2025), and the TV partner (Amazon Prime Video) would not have paid the money they did.

Steve O’Donnell said on the court.

The comments from the O’Donnell shows positive signs about the sport being ready to make more risky investment into events unlike in the past. But at the same time, as Kenny Wallace suggested the same level focus as well as investment needs to be given to the issues the sport is facing in his home tracks.
