After firing Sean McDermott from his position as head coach of the Buffalo Bills, owner Terry Pegula stirred up some controversy when he claimed that drafting WR Keon Coleman was his former head coach’s fault, and not that of GM Brandon Beane.

The billionaire revealed that the GM was merely a participant in that draft when McDermott and his fellow coaches highlighted that they wanted the Florida State prospect.

The 74-year-old added that Coleman was not on Beane’s radar as a potential draft pick, and reiterated that the reason the 49-year-old kept his job was that he drafted rare gems such as QB Josh Allen.

Keon Coleman’s decline from being potentially Allen’s No. 1 wide receiver to becoming an afterthought and a trade candidate was one of the major conversation starters whenever the Buffalo Bills were discussed.

However, fans dug deep with aggregator channel Dov Kleiman, unearthing videos of what GM Brandon Beane said about Coleman in the Bills’ draft documentary.

When I went to bed that night, I was like, it’s Keon unless someone just blows us away. We didn’t feel anything was attractive enough for us to pass up on Keon… All things considered, we’re gonna get the guy we feel is the best fit.

Brandon Beane said

That final sentence was when assistant GM, Terrance Gray, tried to ask his boss if they were locked on the Louisiana native pass catcher. Beane’s confirmation suggests he was fully convinced Keon Coleman was their best pick.

Brandon Beane was happy with Keon Coleman’s combine 40

After Terry Pegula seemingly opened a hornet’s nest with his claim that Brandon Beane was not the one who wanted to draft Keon Coleman, fans brought up another video from their documentary.

I’m glad Coleman ran that. It’ll help to get him.

Brandon Beane said

This was in reference to the 22-year-old’s 40 time, which, for the Bills GM, was enough to convince him that his team needed to draft Coleman.

He, along with assistant GMs Terrance Gray and Brian Gaine, unanimously agreed on that point. That itself is further proof that the front office was focused on the wideout from the start.

Had there been any disagreements, it would have been evident. But Beane’s reactions and the choice of words he used indicate that he was trying to convince everyone that the team should land Keon Coleman.

These clips and more have been doing the round of social media ever since Terry Pegula threw his former head coach, Sean McDermott, under the bus for not developing their 2024 second-round pick. If anything, it has negatively affected the team’s PR.

Analyst believes Bills’ owner has made it difficult for Keon Coleman and his teammates

As discussions surrounding the Buffalo Bills’ press conference debacle reached mainstream media, ESPN’s NFL Live wondered what Keon Coleman‘s future looks like.

Their owner is just throwing a young player who does have immense talent … under the bus like that. Why are we doing this? There are some things, that are so much better left unsaid.

Field Yates said

The analyst believes this could have a detrimental impact on the locker room, as the rest of the players will be looking at how Terry Pegula, the owner, just threw a young prospect under the bus.

At a time when the said player needs some reassurance to regain his confidence, the father of tennis star Jessica Pegula seemingly made it worse.

Yates and the rest of his panel believe the owners’ words will go a long way in determining whether Coleman stays on the team next season.
