In the 18 seasons Kevin Durant has been in the NBA, he has accomplished enough to become a surefire Hall of Famer once he retires. However, there are quite a few fans and analysts who believe he took the easy way out when he could have been a franchise great for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
His decision to leave the Thunder and join the very same Golden State Warriors that beat them in the Western Conference Finals was seen as a weak move.
That team set a new regular-season win-loss record, and it was the easiest way for him to join a surefire contender. He went on to win 2 Finals MVPs, which helped him win his only two championships to date.
Fast-forward to 2025, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are finally champions. The NBA decided to spice things up for the upcoming season by scheduling the newly crowned champions to take on Kevin Durant and his Houston Rockets on opening night.
Knowing that there is a chance that the Thunder will unveil their championship banner and possibly reward their players with title rings, fans believed this was the perfect rub-salt-in-the-wounds-moment for their former superstar.
Where will your mental be opening night when you watch the team that gave you everything raise a banner after you left them high and dry?

Kevin Durant does not care what the narratives are. But he made sure to get back at one of the hating fans who believed the Thunder’s win would affect him.
Kevin Durant continues his savage reply streak
When Kevin Durant starts replying to fans, it is just him typing the words, no PR team, no assistants taking over, nothing. Fans, on the other hand, outnumber him. One such fan decided to ask the others why OKC fans hate him so much. To this, the 36-year-old replied.
Them finals mvps, they will never recover.

He pointed to his 2 NBA Finals MVPs that he won while winning the 2 NBA championships he won with the Golden State Warriors. The Slim Reaper believes those individual accolades enraged OKC fans, since it proved something else.

By winning those two Finals MVPs, the Texas alum proved that he was better than everyone in those two seasons. Therefore, the onus fell on the team’s lack of a collective ability to win a title.
Durant has won his only league MVP award and all his scoring titles with the Thunder. Yet they could not win a title. That is where his 2 individual awards hold weight, as they prove he was not the problem, and that is where he believes OKC fans were hurt the most.
Kevin Durant keeps it real with a non-hating fan
Those were not the only replies from the 15-time All-Star. Kevin Durant spent a lot of time replying to many fans and even clapping back at some who started the comment trail. But one fan avoided all that and asked him why he keeps playing despite fulfilling so much.

My only reason for playing is because I love it.

The fan who asked the 36-year-old this question probably believes a player with 11-time All-NBA selections and a host of other individual accomplishments was more than enough for any basketball player.

Durant, however, kept it real and clarified what keeps him going. The superstar is about to suit up for his 5th different team, and wants to keep hooping until he decides it is time to wrap it up.
