Kevin Durant has hopes of playing into his 40s. The superstar wants to finish his basketball career in the highest possible way he can. The Phoenix Suns forward is already on the top scorers list, but wants a title or two to add to his illustrious resume.

He has two NBA titles to his name, but many try to discredit those championships with claims that he won them with the best team in the league and alongside future Hall of Famers Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala.

Before moving to the Warriors as a free agent, Kevin Durant had a couple of options on his desk. One of them was rumored to be the Los Angeles Clippers. They had just finished below Durant’s Thunder and were a legitimate superstar scorer away from contending for a championship.

In 2016, journalist Aaron Bruski had tweeted that a meeting took place between the former league MVP and Clippers’ $135 billion owner Steve Ballmer, along with other front office staff. Bruski mentioned that Ballmer had apparently ‘cried’ during the ‘intense’ meeting. When a fan brought this tweet to Durant’s notice, he replied:

Somebody crying was news to me, we didn’t know what engagement farming was back then, Aaron was ahead of his time.

As per Durant’s reply, he clarifies that Aaron Bruski was making up a story to generate views. Steve Ballmer did not cry, and there was nothing to it. The Slim Reaper then went on to sign with the Warriors and win his two titles.

Kevin Durant does not impact winning, says Chris Broussard

Many believe that in both of those NBA title wins, Kevin Durant was aided by Hall of Famers around him. Since then, he has not been able to lead a team to the NBA Finals. That is what led analyst Chris Broussard to question if Kevin Durant can help win championships.

KD is viewed as a great bag, but he don’t impact winning like LeBron and never did. Never came close to that.

Chris Broussard said on First Things First

The conversation was primarily about LeBron James‘ bag. To make his point, Chris Broussard pointed out that even though Kevin Durant is more skilled than the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, he does not impact winning the way his older Paris Olympics teammate does.

Kevin Durant could be on the move soon

Whether fans or team executives want to believe Chris Broussard or not is another topic. They do know that there are only a handful of players who can score as efficiently and effectively as Kevin Durant can. Most importantly, those other players might not be on an expiring contract and are ready to move.

Durant might be 37 next season, but even at that age, he can boost a team’s offense. That is why a few championship-contending teams are willing to part with assets to bring the Durantula into their building. Among the many teams interested, only a few have the trade capital to tempt the Phoenix Suns.

One of those teams happens to be the San Antonio Spurs. For instance, in the upcoming draft, they hold the No. 2 and No. 14 overall picks. Along with that, they hold future picks as well as a combination of young prospects and veteran players with expiring contracts.

All of those are valuable for a franchise looking to rebuild or retool. The Suns can use any combination they want, that is why rumors are that a deal is probably already in place. It may be that the league has asked them to hold off on any announcements until the NBA Finals are over.
