The Houston Rockets led by Kevin Durant have remained up and down with their form since the turn of the year. They recorded an impressive 111-104 victory over a strong Detroit Pistons at the Little Caesars Arena on Friday night. It was a neck-to-neck game in the first half before the Rockets built a 14 point lead, heading into the fourth quarter.
It was their seventh win in 13 games in 2026. The Rockets have struggled on the road when compared to their home form this season. It was their 12th win in 25 games away from home and improved their record to 27-16 as they find themselves at fourth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Pistons dropped to 32-11 but remain at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Kevin Durant has often been criticized for “chasing rings” by jumping teams. Since his departure from the Golden State Warriors in 2019, he has played in three teams. Nevertheless, the forward has shown no signs of slowing down in his 18th season. He scored a game-high 32 points and is currently averaging 26.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists.
During the game, Durant was caught chirping with a fan sitting at courtside. The two-time NBA Champion was seen openly talking trash with a Pistons fan while shooting free throws. Durant was heard making some derogatory comments.

Durant has never shied away from taking the fight to the fans, and he didn’t hesitate to clap back in this case. Surrounded by a young and athletic team, ‘KD’ has elevated the Rockets’ chances of contending for the NBA championship this season. If the 37-year-old continues to perform at such a high level, this may be his best chance of winning a ring outside of the Warriors.

Several fans on social media found the exchange hilarious while some felt Durant was being soft and didn’t have to go so far. These occurrences of players going at it with fans have become prevalent in recent years. It remains to be seen if the league decides to take matters into their own hand moving forward to avoid such instances.
Kevin Durant on his heavy workload
Durant recorded his 16th 30-point game of the season on Friday. Last week, the Rockets forward earned his 16th All-Star selection. While he has posted impressive numbers so far this season, his minutes on the court has raised some eyebrows. Against the Pistons, he clocked nearly 41 minutes. At 37, he ranks third in the league in minutes per game.

After snapping the Pistons’ four-match winning streak, Durant was asked about his extended minutes but he dismissed any concerns in his post-match interview.
That’s what I get paid to do, man. I get paid $50-some million to be available and play, and be there for my team whenever they need me to be there. I’m preparing for 48 minutes a night. So if I fall under that, I mean, I’m cool. But I get that people are concerned because of my age and I’ve had some injuries in the past, but I feel solid.
Kevin Durant said after the game
Durant is averaging nearly 37 minutes per game this and has played 44 and 41 minutes in back-to-backs. Consecutive 40+ minutes is a commendable effort from KD and the Rockets staff. However, Rockets fans will be hoping that this does not continue for too long as they will Durant fit and healthy during the playoffs.
