Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant both played pivotal roles in the star-studded USA men’s basketball team that won gold at the 2024 Olympics. Curry, in particular, stepped up when he was most needed, delivering clutch performances against Serbia in the semifinal and France in the final. While many fans have praised the Warriors star for his standout performances in those crucial games, some believe that Durant chose to let his teammate take the spotlight.

This sentiment was echoed by former NBA veteran Rashad McCants in a recent interview. When discussing who should be recognized for their impact on the team, he stated:

And if KD really really really wanted to put his foot down, he will be the MVP because he's probably the best player on the team. He's seven-foot, he can shoot just as good as Steph, and he carried Steph to two championships. So, he can live through Steph's success too and like yeah man, that's my man. But he knows what it is.

According to McCants, it was Kevin Durant who chose to let Stephen Curry receive all the glory and recognition. McCants, who played four seasons in the NBA, further asserted that Durant could take superb shots just like Curry but opted not to push his game to the forefront.

He also added that during their time together at the Golden State Warriors, Durant was the primary star who led Curry and the rest of the team to win two championships.

Kevin Durant called Stephen Curry’s Olympics display ‘one of greatest ever’

Despite Team USA boasting a roster of world-renowned basketball players, it didn’t do enough to scare the Serbians in the semifinal of the men’s competition. But that was until Stephen Curry rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion, like a child awakened by loud noise. The Golden State Warriors guard helped the USA overcome a 17-point deficit and turn the game around in their favor leading to a 95-91 win.

And that unexpected performance by Curry brought praises from Durant, who marveled at his teammate’s performance. The Phoenix Suns star said after the game: “That was a godlike performance. God was with him tonight. It was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen him play.”

Following the eventual win of the gold medal and his inclusion into the All-Star Five of the competition, Curry is widely regarded as one of the best shooting guards ever. And it looks like something Durant seem to agree with.
