“James Jr. on his back with his dad!” – Kevin Durant excited about rookie Bronny James’ NBA career
Kevin Durant is excited about the prospect of facing his longtime rival, LeBron James’ son Bronny James on the court.
Kevin Durant excited about competing against Bronny James
Everyone seems to be excited about the possibility of LeBron James sharing the court with his son, Bronny, in the upcoming NBA season. It has also generated excitement among NBA fans and players alike, including Kevin Durant.
During a media session ahead of the preseason game, Kevin Durant was asked about the prospect of facing both LeBron James and Bronny on the same court. KD, in his usual style, responded positively, even cracking a smile at the idea of the unique father-son duo competing together.

Fans are treating this fixture as a regular season game as it is the first of two preseason matchups between the Suns and Lakers, with the second scheduled for October 17. While stars often skip preseason games, Lakers coach JJ Redick confirmed that LeBron James will be suiting up tonight, and Kevin Durant is also expected to play.
Bronny James during his debut preseason game didn’t have the best outing as he struggled offensively but was better on the defensive side of things. His performance even earned praise from rookie Lakers coach JJ Redick.
Kevin Durant speaks on contract extension
Ahead of the new season, Durant has said he isn’t prioritizing a new contract extension. He is set to earn $51.1 million when the new season starts and $54.7 million next season, after which he’ll become a free agent in the 2026 offseason.

However, even as Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein confirmed ongoing discussions about an extension, the Slim Reaper wants to do his talking on the court. Since joining the Phoenix Suns via a major trade from the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023, he has remained one of the league’s most efficient scorers.
Last season, he started 75 games, where he averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. The Suns are looking to rebound from their disappointing first-round playoff sweep by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
