2024 Paris Olympics Gold medal winners Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards recently attended Fanatics Fest. They also participated in an interview presented by host, Jalen Rose about Team USA’s performance in the decorated event. Additionally, the two stars also discussed additional topics such as the impending NBA season and their preferred off-court sports, etc.
However, in the midst of all this, Durant did not leave an opportunity to express his genuine feelings towards the New York Knicks. Also, the Phoenix Suns star became viral for his most recent moment of honesty, in which he expressed his “hate” for the New York Knicks. The most surprising part is that Durant claimed that he had Knicks legend, Patrick Ewing‘s jersey despite hating on the Knicks.
I had a Patrick Ewing jersey, And that’s crazy because I ended up growing up hating the Knicks; playing for Brooklyn end up hating the Knicks.Kevin Durant told Jalen Rose at the Fanatics Fest
Durant was quickly dealt with boos from the crowd as he passed on this statement. This was mainly due to the Fanatics Fest taking place in New York City.
It’s important to note that, Durant could have become the King of New York City as a free agent in 2019. The Knicks had the resources and motivation to pursue Durant, and his father reportedly “begged” him to sign with them instead of the Nets. Even after they made a plea to have him join that summer, he signed with their main rivals, the Brooklyn Nets instead.
Kevin Durant’s father once questioned his son’s decision to reject the New York Knicks
As mentioned above, Kevin Durant rejected a much-coveted move to the New York Knicks back in 2019. However, his father, Wayne Pratt was a Knicks fan and also held meetings with the Knicks’ executive members in a bid to secure his son’s move to the Knicks. Durant was left furious with this, as wrote in Matt Sullivan’s book, “Can’t Knock the Hustle.”
Sullivan also mentioned, that Durant and his father Pratt also got involved in a heated exchange. In addition, Sullivan wrote that Pratt also questioned Durant regarding his decision to reject the Knicks. Pratt asked KD, “Are you doing this just for Kyrie (Irving) cuz he your buddy?” KD immediately responded, “No, He was making this decision for himself.”
As we all are aware, Durant is unconcerned about what others say. He chooses the best solution for himself, regardless of the noise around him. He first did it in 2016, when he joined the Golden State Warriors, and then again in 2019.
At, present Durant is one of the best basketball players in the world and continues to perform to this date. Hence, it remains to be seen how Durant performs with his current NBA side, the Phoenix Suns in the 2024-25 NBA season.
