Tony Allen's college 'weed' story cracked up Kevin Durant

The Phoenix Suns may be struggling to find a rhythm, but that hasn’t stopped Kevin Durant from meeting up with some old rivals during his off-time. Recently, Durant made an appearance on the Out the Mud podcast hosted by former NBA stars Zach Randolph and Tony Allen. Although the veterans of the league went into detail about their experiences facing off, Allen’s college story stole the show.

During the show, Tony Allen revealed a story about how he was kicked out of junior college in his freshman year right after winning the Freshman of the Year award. The story was definitely a shocker as Kevin Durant took a minute to process why a standout freshman would be kicked out. When Allen revealed that the reason for his expulsion was his being caught consuming ‘weed,’ the room burst into a riot.

I was in junior college man, I got kicked out of the first junior college. I was Freshman of the year there. Man they caught me blowing some little weed. They come to give me the award man, I was tryna spray, I’m tryna put the candles out… Kicked me out that mothaf***ah.

Allen revealed on the show.

Tony Allen attended his freshman year of college at Butler County Community College, where this incident presumably took place. In his freshman year, Allen averaged 16.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.8 steals in 32 games, taking home Second Team All-Jayhawk West Conference and the Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year honors.

Kevin Durant names Tony Allen as toughest defender he faced

As one of the greatest scorers of all time, there have barely been any players in NBA history able to contain Kevin Durant. At almost seven feet tall with a practically unblockable jumper, guarding KD has always been a team-wide assignment for the opposition. However, during his appearance on the Out the Mud podcast, Durant revealed that Tony Allen was the one defender who gave him sleepless nights.

I wasn’t relaxed playing against you, for sure. I feel like you’re the best defender that I played against in my career… I talk basketball with all types of people and I tell them every time, no s*** TA the hardest guy to go against, strictly for the fact that you can’t get a screen. The physical aspects on top of it.

Durant cited Allen’s physicality and especially his fit within the Grit and Grind Grizzlies which made the team, and Allen himself, some of his toughest opponents to score against. However, while Kevin Durant may cite Tony Allen as his defensive nightmare, he dominated against him nevertheless.

In 43 games in the regular season and playoffs versus Tony Allen in his career, Kevin Durant averaged a whopping 27.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. These are great numbers, although the battles between Durant and Allen were almost evenly split, with Allen leading their head-to-head matchups 21-22.
