Over the last few years, there has been a lot of criticism surrounding the NBA All-Star game and 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant believes his former Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry is responsible for it.
For several years, there has been a lack of commitment and effort from the players heading into the All-Star game; in fact, it has been more of a spectacle for the fans. Lack of defense and competitiveness have been the major talking points for NBA fans.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has had his hands full in trying to lift the standards of the game and entertaining the fans. To revive the intensity of the game, the NBA has decided to try out a new format for the 2025-26 season after abandoning the previous format.
The 2026 edition of the All-Star game will feature Team USA vs. Team World in a round-robin format featuring three teams, where each game will be played for 12 minutes. Two USA squads and one international squad. The NBA continues to prioritize global reach and fan engagement.
Kevin Durant appeared on the Unguarded podcast and put the blame on Stephen Curry for the decline of the All-Star game.
LeBron is locked in every All-Star Game. He’s not out there shooting from half court or shooting every shot left-handed. I’m blaming Steph. It’s Steph’s fault. He comes out there and shoots half-court, bro. I’m blaming him for the All-Star Game. I’m blaming Dame, too.

It will be interesting to see if the new format will restore the competitiveness in the players and bring back the pride and reputation of the All-Star game.
Fans react to Kevin Durant’s statements about Stephen Curry ruining the NBA All-Star game
While it may be unfair to solely blame Curry for the decline of the All-Star game, it was the Warriors guard who started shooting half-court shots for fun.
Fans took to social media and reacted to Durant’s comments about his former teammate. Here are some of the reactions:

KD just gave out valuable information
Steph hit 15 threes…. And scored 50 points….. they could’ve tried playing like, a lick of defense. He and dame did the opposite of the constant long outlet passes that lead to an immediate dunk, same thing in a different arguably more exciting font.

Yeah but if Steph is shooting them that's fine @KDTrey5 everyone else can't, so you blame everyone else for being followers.

Kevin Durant makes shocking claim about 2019 Achilles tear
After winning back-to-back NBA Championships in 2017 and 2018, the Warriors were looking to make it three in a row in 2019. After sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers without Durant, they locked horns with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals.

Durant spoke about the injury and said he was never informed that playing on a calf strain could elevate the risk of such a catastrophic injury.
If I knew that information I would’ve made a different decision. If they told me, ‘Ah, you can tear your Achilles’, I probably wouldn’t have went out there.

After being sidelined for a few weeks during the playoffs due to a calf injury, Durant made his return to the NBA Finals in game 5 in Toronto when the Warriors were down by 3-1 but ended up rupturing his Achilles which did not just rule him out for the rest of the series but also the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign with the Brooklyn Nets.
