ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported today that Giannis Antetokounmpo could be considering a trade request for the first time. The Bucks legend has already spent 12 fruitful seasons in Milwaukee and achieved everything. The team’s championship window seems to be closing up fast, and has been derailed by injury. Kevin Durant, however, seems to be treating this news with a lot of skepticism.

The four-time NBA scoring champion was active on Twitter/X today and responded to quite a few basketball fans. His streak of tweeting started off by discussing the kind of trade package Giannis Antetokounmpo would command for the Bucks. According to Durant, any team wishing a fair price for him would need to part with an obscene package. Four starters and six picks, to be exact.

Your 4 of your starting 5 and 6 picks lol

Kevin Durant then turned his attention to more on-court matters, replying to fans who realized he might be in a mood good enough to give honest basketball questions. A fan asked Durant whether he prefers to operate on pin-down screens or on flare screens. Durant graciously answered this question, saying he prefers the former.

I rather beat my man without a screen but if I had to pick one I’d take the pindown, just puts me in better body position to make a play. Sometimes the flare can throw me off balance.

Kevin Durant replied

Kevin Durant also clarified that he’d much rather operate in an iso situation than with screens. This, he stated, is doubly true in late-clock situations. Durant explained that calling for a screen in late-clock situations would induce his opponents to trap him and make his job tougher.

Durant was then asked whether he likes screens on the ball or off it, to which he replied that he doesn’t really have a preference. He faced pushback from another fan, who claimed that Durant doesn’t have the handles to consistently get a look he likes off the dribble. Durant checked him appropriately.

How u think I get to my spots? Off the dribble

Kevin Durant replied

Another user jokingly asked him whether he could start training to become a pro basketball player at age 28. Durant, to his surprise, spotted the mention and replied with a legitimate answer.

If you’re over 6’8, can shoot the blood out of it and jump over a Nissan then yea, I’d say u might. If u don’t have those attributes, Ima say no.

Kevin Durant tweeted

It is extremely refreshing to see NBA players engaging with fans online in an earnest fashion. Very few celebrities, let alone world-class athletes, have the grace to do it with the class that Durant has displayed.

Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the two hottest trade targets this offseason

It is hard to overstate how badly both the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns have managed their assets. The Bucks traded away Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma in one of the most lopsided trades of the year. The Suns, shortly after winning a playoff series with Durant, settled on getting Bradley Beal with his no-trade clause. Suns media members have also been needlessly vocal critics of KD despite his great play.

The consequence of these actions is that rumors have linked both of these former MVPs to moves away from their respective teams. Durant’s name has been mentioned in trades linking him to the OKC Thunder and the Houston Rockets.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name has been floated around with big-market teams, but no team other than the Utah Jazz, Rockets, Nets or the Thunder have the draft assets to make a credible transaction. Given the current state of the CBA, teams are loath to give up their depth even for a historically amazing talent.

The moves made by both superstars this summer will be closely examined by NBA front offices and fans alike.
