Kevin Durant loves playing basketball, which is why he claimed he wants to keep playing into his 40s. There is something else that he also loves: responding to trolls on social media.
Even though many athletes try to avoid engaging in social media banter, the Slim Reaper has become an expert on it. He does not shy away from anything fans hurl at him and always has an answer ready.
Most of the time, he ends up having the last laugh. But there are often times when one comment snowballs into several more. A post created by an X user by the name of Jacobtheclipper caught the 2-time champion’s eye.
He referenced a previous discussion with Durant, where the latter told him that defense in today’s NBA is harder than ever. The user then brought up the multiple 40+ points games that have been recorded this season.
He even went on to suggest that possible middle-of-the-pack players such as Austin Reaves and Lauri Markkanen were also easily capable of scoring as much. To this, Kevin Durant replied:
Somebody go grab this man a VHS so he can watch the golden years of the 90s again. It’s so simple to just not watch lol. How do u hate something so much but still consume it everyday. You’re crazy lmao.
Kevin Durant replied
The 37-year-old took shots at the user for his constant criticism of today’s NBA. Jacobtheclipper’s X feed is filled with posts questioning the quality of the game.

However, Durant believes that if he had such problems, he might as well not watch. Instead, the 6′ 11″ forward was baffled by how Jacobtheclipper keeps watching the game despite his obvious hate.
Kevin Durant had to go at it against fans again
After his initial response to Jacobtheclipper, some fans, who are also critical of today’s NBA, came back with responses of their own. One of them questioned Kevin Durant about whether defense has indeed deteriorated.

He referenced the time when the Rockets’ star used to score 50, and it would make national headlines. Nowadays, with everyone scoring in bunches, the user felt it was due to a lack of defense.
NO!!! It’s perfectly normal, people who can’t accept evolution just continue to complain and it’s annoying.
Kevin Durant replied
Durant believes this is what evolution looks like. He believes the higher skill quotient of today’s players makes it easier for them to score in bunches.

Unlike in the past, the talent pool is a lot better. But fans cannot seem to grasp the fact that this generation has modeled their game after the past greats, and everyone can have a great night.
Kevin Durant points out facts to ’90s ‘old head’ complaining about today’s NBA
One user by the name of Alex Leak responded to Kevin Durant’s reply about evolution. The user mentioned that he has watched 90s basketball, and today’s game is wide open, which proves that defense is lacking.
Go watch the 96 ecf and get off X complaining.
Kevin Durant replied
The former league MVP is referring to the 1996 Eastern Conference Finals between Michael Jordan‘s Chicago Bulls and Shaquille O’Neal‘s Orlando Magic.

He believes tape from that battle will give enough proof that defense was non-existent in that series. Compared to that, the schemes nowadays are far more advanced.
