Kevin Durant talks trash to the HOFer, Gary Payton

It’s part of Kevin Durant‘s routine to casually trend on Twitter, either due to his phenomenal performances or his candid remarks. In today’s battle between the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns, KD once again went viral for chirping at the father of Warriors forward, Hall of Famer Gary Payton.

During most of the third quarter, KD talked some trash to “The Glove” and backed it up with a trio of 3s in a row to end the quarter. However, the veteran later revealed to reporters that the intense exchange of words was all in good spirits and that he and the former Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 are “going to talk this trash until we die. It’s all love.”

When an instigative reporter asked how Payton would stand up against one of the best examples of ’90s gritty, hard-nosed players, KD laughed it off, saying:

He’s too small, man. [Payton is] 6-4, not really physical like that. He’s just too small for me. And he knows that. But GP is one of those players, you’re not going to get that last word on him… I still don’t know… He’d probably just try to foul me, just like his son do.

Kevin Durant jested

KD also disclosed that GP is one of his favorite players, someone he looked up to and has much respect for. Furthermore, the 36-year-old said that it’s always good to have a rapport with the older generation of players and that “They respect me. I respect what they’ve done.”

Despite scoring only 19 points, KD assisted in the Suns’ 130-105 triumph over the Warriors, putting KD up 20-12 in his head-to-head battle against former teammate Stephen Curry. However, due to his low-scoring output, irate fans took to Twitter to call out the veteran, to which Durant retorted, “U won’t miss that lil 4 dollars.”

Kevin Durant claps back at parlay bettor after low-scoring night

After having good offensive nights for nine games in a row, Kevin Durant hit a scoring slump in Chase Center, a place where he became a champion and called home a few years ago. And as usual, fans were quick to nitpick and bash KD over his decreased production. Due to only 19 points in 29 minutes of playing time, most parlayers lost their bets and started blaming KD for their losses.

“Brokeyyyyy. You’ll be aight, u won’t miss that lil 4 dollars u lost tonight.” — Kevin Durant responded.

These remarks by the veteran have divided the sports bettor community, with some calling his comments insensitive toward his own fans. Nonetheless, KD has made his stance on gambling clear on several occasions, even going as far as to call out fans over their “gambling addiction.”
