At the Paris Olympics, the men’s basketball tournament showcased some of the most competitive games of any sport. The close scores in the knockout stages proved that multiple teams could have staked a claim in the medal rounds. Germany star Dennis Schroder pointed out how they have bridged the gap. However, his sly dig at the American style brought out a response from Kevin Durant.
Reporters asked Schroder after the bronze medal game at the Paris Olympics what advantages European basketball brings against the one in the USA. Considering his experience playing for both, he said it had more to do with IQ than the entertainment aspect.
European basketball is no entertainment, it's straight IQ basketball. Straight coaching. Really really high-IQ guys who know how to play the game. Of course, the USA (NBA) is the best league in the world, but Europeans, they are coming for sure.Dennis Schroder via press appearance at Paris Olympics
To this, Kevin Durant took to his official X account and wrote a cheeky dig along with a photo of Team USA with their gold medals. It appears both IQ and entertainment have helped them net the gold medal at several Olympics.

Dennis Schroder does have a point, as that experience and IQ have helped the Europeans come closer than ever to giving the Americans a scare or two. But Durant’s jibe suggests that Schroder is missing the point. The Americans also have the same or even better IQ.
But add the entertainment factor they bring, and even then, no one can beat them when the stakes are high. In fact, the entertainment is what has elevated the game of basketball. This has then led to the Europeans going to the NBA to hone their game.
Kevin Durant continues taking shots at hating fans
Kevin Durant was not done with taking shots at haters late in the night after winning the gold medal. After the Schroder post, he sent out a tweet that comprised a screenshot of Ja Morant from his viral tunnel walk, where he talked about fans switching sides. Durant used that to take a shot at that particular fan with whom he has had a back-and-forth over the past few days.
The fan in question goes by the username Swipa. After the game against Serbia, he took shots at Team USA while lauding the Serbians for taking the game to the wire. Durant had responded with a ‘Where you from?‘ reply. After the Americans won gold, Swipa put up a picture of him wearing a USA t-shirt and added that Durant comment as a hashtag.
The 2-time champion essentially took a shot at Swipa for switching sides. He was surely in high spirits as these replies were at 3 a.m. in the morning. Long after they won gold, they were probably still celebrating. It goes to show that the superstar is the king of fan replies.
