The only essentiality when it comes to the offseason is time. When you know a player like Serge Ibaka from Toronto Raptors in hitting his free agency, anyone would want to acquire them into their squad. Similar is being done by Kevin Durant, who wants Ibaka to play in the Brooklyn Nets before the 2020-21 season. Having played alongside each other at Oklahoma City Thunder. Durant is aware about Ibaka’s defensive abilities. 

Serge Ibaka had an average of more than 3 blocks in the 2013-14 season. Much to what is continued even till date. The 31-year-old made $23.3 million last season, and it will be tough for the Nets to offer him a counter amount. This is exactly where the kinship between KD and Serge can help trade talks.  

As per Forbes, “Brooklyn can only offer Ibaka the $5.7 million taxpayers’ mid-level exception.”

A recent report as per Essentially Sports suggests, “Kevin Durant has been recruiting close friend Serge Ibaka to join the Brooklyn Nets as a free agent.” But there lies an issue with this equation. 

Every basketball fanatic is aware that this is a season of resurgence for the Brooklyn Nets. Having both Durant and Irving on the court, if they get along can be monstrous for the Nets. 

Earlier, there were also rumors that the 7-footer can move to the Miami Heat. He had allegedly removed ‘Raptors’ from his Instagram bio when the rumors picked traction. As of now, as many as six other teams can give his recruitment a try. 

This past season, Ibaka averaged his career-high 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds at 51.2% from the field. His performance from downtown has again bounced back to an impressive 38.5% after hitting a low in 2019. He is also extraordinary at cut backs, post-ups, and transition. One such versatile scorer can add weight to the already strong Nets. 

But with Lakers also in the rumored picture, can the Nets finally build a team that can help them grab a good spot in the Eastern Conference? The question remians unaswered till the season starts on December 22.
