The Philadelphia Sixers made one of the biggest moves this off-season by signing Paul George to a four-year $212 million contract. George’s move from West to East raised many eyebrows in the basketball world and even many analysts. NBA legend Kevin Garnett talked about George and his move from West to East on his podcast ‘KG Certified.’
During the podcast, Kevin Garnett made a bold statement about George’s offseason moves and stated that he would do better in the Eastern Conference than in the Western Conference. He made his statement keeping in mind the less star power in the East as compared to the West. Garnett even mentioned about the Sixers being a tougher team than last season.
I think PG is going to be better in the east than he was in the west. A lot slower pace over here on the east. Having new, fresh beginnings. I'm sure he's hearing all the rumblings and the echoes just coming from the Clipper locker room.Kevin Garnett said via KG Certified
Paul George is one of the best two-way players in the league and can be a valuable asset for the Sixers in the next season. George could certainly complement the playing styles of both Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Paul George’s time with the Los Angeles Clippers didn’t go as planned
In 2019, the Los Angeles Clippers signed Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, instantly elevating the team to title contender status. Many NBA fans and analysts believed that both PG and Kawhi could lead the Clippers to their first championship. Their partnership was expected to establish a dynasty, but after five years, their era with the Clippers came to an end this offseason.
In the five years of George with the Clippers, the team only managed to win reach the conference finals once. In the 2020 West semi-finals they bowed out against the Denver Nuggets in an embarrassing loss after blowing up a 3-1 lead. Health was the main issue with the main stars of the Clippers. Both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were not healthy and constantly battling injuries during their stint with the Clippers.
Last season when the Clippers added James Harden, many thought the Clippers are destined to win the championship with three former NBA All-Stars in the team. But that didn’t happen as the Clippers lost in the first round of the playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks. Now with George joining the Sixers, Leonard certainly has to do more to reach the playoffs in the next season.
