Kevin Garnett reveals to a shocked Paul Pierce that he played with legendary musician Prince in his luxury mansion in Minneapolis
During his playing days, Kevin Garnett was one of the best players in the league. Starting off straight out of high school, he displayed elite skills in comparison to what an almost 7-footer was generally known to play like.
That brought stardom. He revealed that his stardom saw him play alongside the musical great Prince. While on his show KG Certified, former teammate Paul Pierce asked Garnett if he played basketball with Prince.
Not to be on some Chapelle sh**. Everybody that's been to Paisley Park past 2:30 know what I'm talking about. This is at his studio called Paisley Park. On the side he got a court in there. He play out of his shirt. He in there looking like Prince, hair going. This sh** went on until 7 in the morning. And he ball hard. Everybody in there trying to guard him, and he in there Yah! Dropping your a**, get in your face. I did that twice with him. I was fortunate to be part of that.Kevin Garnett said
Kevin Garnett revealed that he was not supposed to talk about this during his playing days as he might not be asked to go back. Prince naturally maintained secrecy.
The former NBA Champion also talked about how despite his short height, Prince had dribbling skills and a one-two dribble move that was hard to guard. This is coming from one of the best defensive players to play the game.
Many musicians play the game of basketball. But it seems, Prince was in a league of his own. The conversation between Paul Pierce and Garnett moved on to prove that Prince was better than other musicians who dribbled a basketball.
Kevin Garnett compares Prince’s basketball skills to Michael Jackson and Chris Brown
One of their producers asked the pair of NBA legends who would win in a game of basketball, Michael Jackson or Prince. Garnett said he does not know if the King of Pop could play basketball. The producer then references a video of Jackson dribbling in a commercial with Michael Jordan.
Going off how he was dribbling, Prince would bone the sh** out of Michael Jackson. To this Kevin Garnett replied
To this Paul Pierce suggested Chris Brown as the opponent.
I don't know if Chris Brown quick enough. That n**** had a right to left and Yah! Prince was short, small, compact and fast. He can hoop.Kevin Garnett added
Garnett suggested that Prince could beat the average person who knows how to play basketball, which was depicted by comedian Dave Chapelle in one of Prince’s songs.
Garnett suggested that Michael Jackson does not look like he can play basketball. Therefore, it was a no contest. However, Chris Brown would be a proper duel between like for like. But he wasn’t sure if Brown was quick enough to handle the smaller and faster Prince.
Kevin Garnett said that he was fortunate to have been able to meet and play with Prince during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He holds that time in his life as one that he will always cherish.
