Kevin Garnett worries Nikola Jokic’s astronomical season will snub Nuggets star from MVP

Nikola Jokic and Kevin Garnett

It has been amazing to watch Nikola Jokic dominate the NBA. We are discussing a guy who has a good chance of recording a triple-double in every game. The Serbian ace is becoming more dominant than he has been in a long time. Interestingly, former NBA players, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce sat down recently to discuss Jokic and the NBA MVP 2025 Award.

Along with Jokic, another star, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is having a great season. The two are leading the chase to win the NBA 2025 MVP Award. However, Garnett believes Jokic will be stripped of the award due to the star already won it several times. This is despite Jokic having an all-timer NBA 2024-25 season.

That’s what am saying, he’s not gonna get an award because he has gotten awards!

On the KG Certified Podcast, Kevin Garnett said

In terms of points per game (29.9), rebounds per game (13.1), assists per game (10.1), and, oddly enough, steals per game (1.8), Jokic is presently third in the league. The statistical credentials of the majority of MVP candidates have weaknesses. Somehow, Jokic excels at almost everything he tries. This showcases the Denver Nuggets stars immense talent in the sport.

Winning another MVP Award would put him on a special list among the legends of the sport. However, it won’t be easy as SGA has also been dropping consistent performances for his side. The Thunder are #1 in the West, thanks to SGA’s astronomical rise this season. It will be intriguing to watch who snatches this coveted award this year.

NBA legend makes his case for MVP award between Nikola Jokic and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander

In his analysis of this year’s NBA MVP contest, ESPN expert Kendrick Perkins highlighted Denver Nuggets player Nikola Jokic. Perkins revealed why he continues to select Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as this the season’s Most Valuable Player despite Jokic’s triple-double average in 2024–25.

Kendrick Perkins said on NBA Countdown, “I think, and I say this respectfully, that the MVP conversation is beneath now at this point. It’s time for different conversations like top-five centers of all-time conversations.”

In the Western Conference, the Nuggets(#4) are trailing the Thunder for the top spot. This is significant for Jokic’s MVP case since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, his main rival for the award, has propelled the Thunder to the top seed. Perhaps Jokic will have a chance to win that coveted fourth MVP award if he can keep his side moving forward.
