As the new season of the PGA Tour kicks off, the excitement for the major championships among fans has already started to bubble up. While the majors are still a bit far away, golfer Kevin Na dropped a bold suggestion recently.

LIV Golfers do not qualify directly for the major championship due to their Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points. The 54-hole circuit does not receive the OWGR points, which affects their rankings and participation in major championships.

As a result of these rankings, only previous winners are allowed to play in these PGA Tour-sanctioned events. Apart from them, some LIV golfers also receive special invitations from the tournament management, which gives them a chance to compete in these prestigious events.

Na claimed that he and his league mates should get an exemption for all four major championships following their wins on the breakaway tour. He pointed out how victories on the PGA Tour opens up places in the major events.

I think you do winners, so if you win a LIV Golf tournament. We only have 13, so to win a golf tournament with this field, it’s pretty difficult to do. Winners should be exempt, and I think you take the top-16 players or so. I think if you have a season and you finish inside the top-16, you should be exempt into all four Majors.

Recently, The Masters sent out a special invitation to Joaquin Niemann. This marked the second straight year where he had received a special invitation from them. Apart from him, Nicolai Hojgaard. It will be interesting if any other LIV golfer receives any sort of special invitation from The Masters and the other three major championships.

Kevin Na expresses confidence on LIV Golfers getting exemption into all four major championships

Apart from his bold suggestion, Kevin Na is also confident about another thing. The 41-year-old claims that a route will soon be open for LIV golfers to take part in all four major championships.

Na believes that this will happen soon as several good players keep on missing out on the events. The golfer also claimed that exemptions of the major champions, who are part of LIV Golf, will soon come to an end.

I haven’t heard exactly what’s going to happen, but I’m pretty confident that in the near future we will get exemptions to Majors. It just has to happen because there are too many good players playing out here. I know the Major champions are exempt, but eventually guys will run out of exemptions.

As of now, winners of The Masters tournament and the PGA Championship receive lifetime exemption in this event. For the Open Championship, previous winners can play up until the age of 60. Whereas, winners of the U.S. Open receive a 10-year exemption.

With the PGA Tour still in talks with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), there could be a way for LIV golfers to get directly into the majors instead of relying on exemptions. It though remains to be seen what changes there will be once the merger finally goes through.
