A former Universal Champion might have inked a new hefty deal with WWE behind the curtains. As per some recent reports, WWE came to an agreement with this star a long time ago amid the rumors of him possibly leaving the company. In fact, it might be the reason behind his high-profile feud with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton on SmackDown.
The star in the spotlight is Kevin Owens. According to a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE might’ve extended The Prizefighter’s contract around the time of this year’s Bash in Berlin. However, the report also presents that fans need to take this update with a grain of salt as it has not been confirmed yet.
Considering this report, it can be concluded why Owens has been moved to such a high-profile feud all of a sudden. He recently turned heel on Rhodes, and that has sparked a massive change in his character. Also, his actions have formed cracks in his bond with Orton on SmackDown.

Kevin Owens has been after Cody Rhodes since Bad Blood. After weeks of developing animosity, fans must be wondering where this story might lead in the months to come. Recently, WWE personality Peter Rosenberg opined about the possible direction for this story.
Speaking on The Cheap Heat Podcast, Rosenberg said that he believes that Owens might be the person who could dethrone Rhodes down the line. He elucidated that there could not be any other reason for such an intense heel turn at this point. Hence, it is likely that The Prizefighter will become the next Undisputed WWE Champion.
The only reason I would think it’s believable is, if you’re gonna have the scene of Kevin Owens beating the hell of your top guys, why do that if there is no bigger play for Kevin Owens? Him doing that for no reason wouldn’t make sense.

Moreover, Owens hasn’t won a World Title for over 7 years. It would not be a surprise if WWE decided to make him a top champion by the end of this year. However, the chances of him beating Rhodes for the title are low.
