“We Had a Bit of Sh*T Run,” Kevin Owens Gets Brutally Honest About WWE Dropping the Ball After His WrestleMania glory
Kevin Owens isn't proud of the tag team championship reign he had with Sami Zayn in 2023. He believes they couldn't do justice to The Usos' exploits.

Kevin Owens forgiving Sami Zayn for his Bloodline allegiance led to their reunion in the spring of 2023. They went on to upstage Jimmy and Jey, The Usos, for the tag team titles in the main event of WrestleMania 39. The doubles silverware had never seen such a high before, which made the occasion even more special. But did Zayn and Owens follow it up well?
At least, Owens doesn’t think so. In fact, in his appearance on Cody Rhodes‘ What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, The Prizefighter claimed that they had kind of a “sh*t run.” The dynamic duo of Zayn and Owens held those straps for 153 days before dropping them to Finn Balor and Damian Priest at Payback. By the time their reign ended, the fans arrived at the conclusion that it was indeed underwhelming.
We had a bit of a s*** run. I remember before we won the titles, we kept saying, we just hope we can live up to the Usos, what the Usos did. And we didn’t.
Kevin Owens said
As per Owens, WWE’s focus at the time was to feature his pairing with the ex-Honorary Uce in key spots on post-WrestleMania editions of Raw. KO said they were entrusted with the onus of keeping the fans entertained even till the dying minutes of those three-hour shows, which, in itself, was a tedious task. Moreover, back then, the team of Owens and Zayn was at loggerheads with The Judgment Day.
WWE would repeatedly book these sides in different combinations of matches on a weekly basis, often resulting in the same set of wrestlers taking each other on. But, to everyone’s surprise, the formula resonated with the arena audiences. Owens has majorly credited Zayn for making it happen, as his connection with the fans is second to none.
Kevin Owens lashes out at wrestlers for excessively using tan sprays
Owens doesn’t hold back on his opinions. In the aforementioned conversation with Cody Rhodes, the French-Canadian star hilariously slammed his WWE coworkers for their excessive usage of tan sprays. Owens singled out Bron Breakker for that matter and quipped that The Unpredictable Badass should be arrested.

The Prizefighter explained that it’s not ideal if one’s tan can be rubbed off their bodies onto their opponents in the ring. Owens recently took a swipe at his former tag team partner, Seth Rollins. The 41-year-old star subtly called Rollins out for his deep tan, wondering if he did it just to acclimatize with his protégé, Breakker.
.@FightOwensFight is sick and tired of wrestlers and their tans! ☀️🤣

Not only does Owens hate the practice of wrestlers going overboard with tan sprays, but he also can’t stand his male peers who trim off their beards and leave the hair as it is on the floor. It’s quite evident that the former Universal Champion is a huge advocate of personal hygiene and public etiquette, which was on display during the rant of his colleagues, as seen above.
What was Kevin Owens’ last WWE match before neck injury?
At this year’s Elimination Chamber PLE, Kevin Owens locked horns with Sami Zayn. It was an unsanctioned match, with WWE not responsible for any harm inflicted by the men at daggers drawn on each other. Their clash, as expected, was brutal and often uncomfortable to watch at times.

A barbed wire-wrapped steel chair was also used to execute one of the nastiest-looking blue thunder bombs by Zayn on Owens. KO emerged victorious after jostling for minutes, and he tried ending Zayn’s career before being opposed by a returning Randy Orton.

WWE had plans to pit The Viper against The Prizefighter at WrestleMania 41. However, a later-disclosed neck injury to Owens derailed everything. The former Kevin Steen has revealed that he’s set to undergo spinal fusion neck surgery in mid-July to embark on his road to recovery.
