In an absolutely delightful piece of news for his fans, Kevin Owens has resumed training for the first time since undergoing a neck fusion surgery in July. The Quebec-born wrestler posted a clip on X, where he could be seen partaking in running drills with his theme song as the background music. While that doesn’t necessarily put a timestamp on his eventual return, it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
‘The Prizefighter’ said during his visit to a NASCAR event in August that even though the neck surgery was successful, the pace of recovery will depend on how the bones fuse. ‘KO’ also alluded to different aspects of these neck fusion procedures. The former Universal Champion noted that there have been instances in history where wrestlers have made a full recovery, but some unfortunate cases also exist.

Who could ever forget the Big E situation? He had to quietly retire from in-ring competition after having been forced to play the waiting game on his neck for three years. However, another WWE veteran, Randy Orton, was fortunate enough to plot his return to the ring despite being told by the doctors that he was done for. And that’s something Owens would like to draw inspiration from.
‘The Viper’ was set to be the Canadian’s WrestleMania 41 opponent this year before ‘The Prizefighter’ publicly announced his neck injury on SmackDown. After Owens stepped away, Orton helped him out by setting him up with the same surgeon whom he had worked with during his phase of recovery.
‘The Apex Predator’ wanted to make sure that ‘KO’ had access to a second opinion on his surgery, hoping it’d work out. However, ultimately it didn’t, and the erstwhile Kevin Steen had to go through a neck fusion surgery, which, by the way, was a level-one diagnosis, making it a best-case scenario for Owens.
Could Kevin Owens return in time for WrestleMania 42?
The timing of Kevin Owens starting to get those reps in is quite interesting, with the Royal Rumble still about three months away. The Big 4 PLE is headed to Saudi Arabia in 2026 and will be held on January 31. If Owens could make it back in time for the Rumble, it’d be a dramatic comeback, as initial reports stated otherwise.

A previous report from Fightful Select revealed that ‘KO’ wasn’t expected to return to the ring this year, which appears to be the case. Moreover, the report added that the 41-year-old was also feared to miss WrestleMania 42. However, given the fact that he has resumed training and has posted it for the public domain, tells an entirely different story.
As of now, there’s no follow-up to that video put up by the former US Champion. Despite the ongoing ambiguity around his status, the aforementioned clip has evoked a ray of hope within wrestling circles that Owens might be back sooner rather than later.
Kevin Owens recently attended an NHL game with Chris Jericho
Speaking of Kevin Owens’ recent whereabouts, the ‘Headlock Master’ attended an NHL game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Dallas Stars at the Benchmark International Arena in Florida. But guess what? He wasn’t alone. Sitting right beside him was his compatriot, Chris Jericho.

‘Y2J’ posted their selfie on Instagram and referred to Owens as his best friend. What did it accomplish? Two things. First of all, Owens was without a neck brace and looking happier than ever while catching up with an old buddy. Secondly, it also fueled rumors of Jericho’s WWE switch amid reports of his AEW contract expiring at the end of this year.
‘The Lionheart’ hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since April, and it’s not expected to change unless Jericho decides to stay with the Tony Khan-led promotion in a move that would be completely against the run of play. But if the lead vocalist of Fozzy ends up going back to WWE, he would stand a chance to share the ring with Kevin Owens yet again somewhere down the road.
