At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Kevin Owens felt that he was screwed out of the WWE Title match against Cody Rhodes. As such, Owens took home the Winged Eagle championship after laying waste to Rhodes. Since then, KO has referred to himself as the ‘true and real’ WWE Champion, parading around with the belt. Continuing his antics, Owens appeared at the Netflix Kickoff event on Wednesday and also took a shot at CM Punk.

While speaking at the event, Owens reiterated his point of being the rightful Undisputed WWE Champion. The Prizefighter was surprised that WWE didn’t invite him to the major event. Furthermore, Owens announced that he would defend the title at the upcoming Holiday Live Event in Jacksonville, FL. Moments later, security arrived to escort Owens out of the building. While leaving WWE HQ, Owens looked to the camera to say he had the “best moveset.”

This was a clear jab at Punk, who had days ago expressed his distaste for the word “moveset.” At the time, fans thought that The Second City Saint himself mocked his former AEW rival, “Hangman” Adam Page. However, Punk had long before revealed exactly how he felt about the word.

During one of his first promos following his WWE return, Punk teased a future showdown with Owens. The two then had a brief backstage interaction, which suggests that the former world champions could clash in the future.

The Canadian star is currently on one of the best runs of his career. Following the ending to Saturday Night’s Main Event, Kevin Owens has vowed to be a fighting champion. The 40-year-old star decapitated Rhodes after delivering a Package Piledriver in an off-the-air segment.

What is the story behind the real-life animosity between CM Punk and Kevin Owens?

There are several reasons why the real-life relationship between CM Punk and Kevin Owens isn’t on the best of terms. During their time in Ring of Honor, Punk allegedly took issue with Owens wrestling in a t-shirt. This led to an intense backstage argument between Punk and Owens.

Years later, The Second City Saint’s friendship with Colt Cabana took a sour turn. According to reports, Cabana having dinner with Sami Zayn and Owens did not sit well with Punk. The latter supposedly felt that Cabana meeting two WWE stars was a betrayal.

In 2022, Punk’s infamous All Out crashout and brawl with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks sent shockwaves around the wrestling world. Although not confirmed, fans suggested that Owens, who is close friends with the Bucks, might not have taken too kindly to Punk’s actions. Nonetheless, the WWE Universe is eagerly anticipating an on-screen program between the two stars.
