On last week’s episode of SmackDown, it was confirmed that Kevin Owens would challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE title. Initially, The Prizefighter didn’t agree to it but later understood its importance and stood up for himself. However, a small interaction between two great friends on SmackDown hinted that the former Universal Champion might soon turn to his dark side.
Kevin Owens had a hilarious argument with Grayson Waller in a backstage segment on the latest episode of SmackDown. It eventually set up a singles match between them, with Waller’s tag team partner Austin Theory by his side. However, what happened after the match gave a subtle hint that the WWE Universe might soon witness a different side of Owens.
The match started at a high pace, with Owens taking control with a clothesline to the Aussie star at ringside. He secured the win with a pop-up powerbomb, ending a short but enjoyable match. Theory tried to attack him with a chair, but Cody Rhodes came out to help his friend and managed to fend them both off with their own chairs.
As fans rejoiced, Rhodes bent down to pick up his title, which was on the floor. However, before The American Nightmare could even touch it, the former Intercontinental Champion grabbed it, subtly signaling that he was coming for it. In the end, Owens respectfully handed back the title and walked out. It will be interesting to see which side of him people will witness at the Bash in Berlin PLE in Germany.
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T also feels Kevin Owens might turn heel against Cody Rhodes
Kevin Owens has done some of his best work as a heel for the Stamford-based company. He even made his debut as a heel and feuded with John Cena. Now that people are speculating that he might turn heel once again, Booker T discussed the possibility of him turning on one of his best friends for the world title.
While speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, the legend mentioned that sometimes WWE needs to do something bold to create an angle. Interestingly, King Booker was open to either direction. He said that if both superstars managed to deliver a classic match as babyfaces, he would be happy with that.
Sometimes you have to go in cold to be able to create an angle. Now, if they do go out there and Kevin Owens happened to flip the script and something happened, and he goes in a different angle, totally changed from Kevin Owens where we’re looking at him right now, that might happen as well.Booker T on Kevin Owens via the Hall of Fame podcast
Although the 59-year-old veteran did say that he wasn’t looking that far away before it actually happened, Another important storyline will come into play when Rhodes’ other friend, Randy Orton, addresses the opportunity Owens got. He will be challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight title at Bash in Berlin.
