“From hero to zero in days” – Former first round pick Kevin Porter Jr. earns mere $10K in Greece after losing his $80 million NBA contract, fans react
KPJ went from millions to nothing, while having All-Star potential.

Kevin Porter Jr.
Kevin Porter Jr., the youngster from Houston is facing the worst downfall of his career. The former Trojan was drafted 30th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2019 NBA Draft. However, he was eventually traded to the Cavs, where he spent his rookie year. As a rookie, Porter Jr. was a solid player, putting up great numbers and was pretty efficient on the offensive end of the floor. However, in 2021, he was traded to the Rockets.
In Houston, KPJ had the best of his NBA career so far. He was the key player alongside other youngsters in Houston, being recognized as one of the best players of the next generation. However, things took a turn for the 23-year-old after he was accused of assault by his wife and WNBA player, Kysre Gondrezick. Today, Porter Jr. is playing in a professional league in Greece, being paid $10K a month.
KPJ signed a rookie extension worth $63.4 million with the Rockets back in 2022. He lost his $80 million contract before signing up to play in Greece. For a player with huge potential, KPJ got himself in a bad situation. However, things that led to this phase explain quite a lot about KPJ’s current scenario.
Fans react to Kevin Porter Jr.’s massive contract downfall
Following his stint with the Rockets, the franchise decided to move on with the youngster after his off-court issues. KPJ was traded to the Thunder in 2023 and was later waived, leaving him with no offers on the table from any team.
Fans on Twitter could not believe Porter Jr.’s downfall, as the former Rocket made his debut overseas. Here are some of the reactions:
Porter Jr. was accused of Domestic Violence. Not only that, but he was also accused of improper handling of a firearm, back when he was in Cleveland.
His history of off-court issues led him to sign with the PAOK in the Stoiximan Basket League in Greece. Having the potential of an All-Star or possibly a future NBA champion, KPJ fumbled the bag quite badly. If all would have gone well, the 23-year-old would be worth roughly around $80 million. His former teammate, Jalen Green has been doing pretty well for himself in Houston, as he recently led the team to a 11-game win streak.
As of now, it is only to wonder whether Kevin Porter Jr. will ever return to the league in the future. It will be interesting to see how things will play out for him in Greece.
