Shedeur Sanders is still waiting for his chance to play for the Cleveland Browns, as head coach Kevin Stefanski moves on from Joe Flacco and is now working with Dillon Gabriel as his starter.

After benching Flacco, Gabriel played in their narrow loss to the Minnesota Vikings. His performance led many to question why the Browns are not using the Colorado star, as he has the will to win that could have helped them.

After that game, the franchise traded away Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, and then proceeded to name Sanders as their designated QB2. This increased hopes that the 23-year-old could soon get his opportunity.

The team has a 3rd quarterback in Bailey Zappe, but he is currently on their practice squad. When Kevin Stefanski was asked about the Joe Flacco trade and if that meant Shedeur Sanders was his designated QB2, the Browns head coach replied:

The Joe trade took us by surprise… Still working through all roster things. I just have to be mindful of our players and our players’ development. I want to make sure that I’m always doing what is best for our players… I’ll let the week play out and make a decision later on that.

This answer effectively means that Deion Sanders‘ son is not his head coach’s designated QB2. He is not ready to commit to that yet and wants to take next week to look at his options.

This video went viral as it became clear that Kevin Stefanski was not ready to hand Shedeur Sanders the reins. He wants to take his time to develop his rookie QB and send him in when he feels it is right.

Kevin Stefanski might be waiting for the right moment to start Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders has been talking about how he is ready to start. He smilingly and quietly expressed his frustrations when Dillon Gabriel was named the starter.

His father has also seemingly vented out his frustrations, avoiding any conversations about the Cleveland Browns during his recent interviews. All of this shows that the family might be weighing their options down the line if the situation does not improve.

After their draft debacle, they are not sure if they have the weight to push for a trade. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski might not let it reach to that stage.

He might have a plan in mind when it comes to his 5th round quarterback. If he were to send Sanders in, and somehow it turned out to be bad for the QB, Stefanski would have no choice but to replace him with the next available signal caller.

It could have a detrimental impact on the rookie, and could also undermine Dillon Gabriel as the quarterback above him in the hierarchy. If Gabriel plays well, calls for Sanders to start will die down. If not, then Stefanski could be justified to send in the mercurial QB.

Jerry Jeudy has high praise for Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders might have to wait until either Dillon Gabriel messes up, or Kevin Stefanski believes the situation requires his other rookie QB to start. In the midst of this, the Colorado star is being as professional as he can.

He’s been doing a good job understanding the plays, doing whatever the coach asked of him. He’s been doing a great job of being a pro. Doing what he needed to do, be able to (play) once he gets his chance, he can take advantage of it. That’s all you can ask him to do.

Jerry Jeudy said to reporters

Jerry Jeudy‘s words suggest that his rookie teammate is doing all he can to stay prepared. Then, whenever the chance comes, he will be able to perform and prove that he should be their franchise quarterback.
