There is absolutely no question about the experience referee Herb Dean brings to the octagon. The veteran referee who has officiated a plethora of main events has had a fair share of controversies as well. One such was his refereeing at UFC 229, when Conor McGregor took on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a hotly contested lightweight title match. Many felt that Herb Dean let Conor get away with a lot of illegal strikes, much to the frustration of Khabib who would eventually win the match via. submission.

More recently, a video has been released which shows Khabib’s coach asking Herb Dean how much he was paid to cheat and Herb Dean laughing it off saying he was just trying to do a good job and that he has never been well compensated. We can finally see Khabib forgiving Herb Dean, as the pair embrace.

How much did you get paid Herb? How much?”, Khabib’s coach asks.

“I was trying to do a good job,” Herb Dean replies with a beaming smile.

“Were you well-compensated, though?”, the coach asks again.

“That’s the thing; I’ve never been well-compensated,” Dean replies.

“Coach, I forgive him, I forgive him!” Khabib intervenes.

Poor refereeing or not, Khabib Nurmagomedov ultimately won the fight. Mistakes are just a part of everyone’s life. It was really good to see Khabib Nurmagomedov forgiving Herb Dean in the end, and laughing it off. What are your thoughts on this incident?
