Cain Velasquez and Khabib Nurmagomedov formed a close connection during their time at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, California. Despite being in separate weight classes, both fighters trained with coach Javier Mendez, where they acquired mutual respect for each other’s passion and expertise.
Since then, both sports legends have stayed close to each other and shared a great relationship. Recently, Khabib Nurmagomedov was at AKA gym, where he met his old friend. One such video went viral in which Velazquez was massaging Nurmagomedov’s biceps. By the looks of it, it seemed like old friends were having fun and teasing each other.
Over the years, both men have encouraged each other inside and outside the octagon. Velasquez’s attendance at numerous of Khabib’s fights indicates their close friendship and training companionship. In interviews, they frequently praise one another, with Velasquez serving as a mentor to Khabib.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is a UFC Hall of Famer. During the ceremony, he was asked who should enter the Hall of Fame. Nurmagomedov mentioned Cain Velasquez as his number-one recommendation for a potential UFC Hall of Famer. During the hard times, Dagestani also supported Velasquez.
When Khabib Nurmagomedov stood with Cain Velasquez when the fighter was in prison
In February 2022, Cain Velasquez was imprisoned in relation to a shooting that occurred in San Jose, California. According to reports, Velasquez drove after and fired shots at a car that had Harry Goularte. The individual was charged with se*ually abusing Velasquez’s young relative in a creche that Goularte’s mother owned.
Along with numerous other connected accusations, Velasquez was charged with attempted murder. Public sympathy and considerable attention were drawn to his detention and the case, particularly from the MMA community. Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke with TMZ Sports about the importance of protecting family and supported Velasquez’s actions.

Goularte’s stepfather was also inside the car when Velasquez allegedly pursued him at a high rate of speed and opened fire, striking him many times. However, he managed to escape unharmed. Velasquez was jailed for several months before being freed on bond in November 2022, pending his trial.
