‘Khabib Nurmagomedov is going to come back, It’s just my job to be the one he will come back for” says Kevin Lee
The number 11 ranked Lightweight fighter, Kevin Lee just seemed to be too confident these days. For a long period of time he has been calling Khabib Nurmagomedov to face him but no one seems interested in seeing Lee facing the undefeated ‘Eagle of Dagestan’. But Lee never misses a chance to call out Khabib for a fight.
In his recent interview with ESPN, Lee says “Khabib Nurmagomedov going to come back, He’s going to come back for one or two of them. It’s just my job to be the one that he’s going to come back for. I’ve got to be big enough for him to come back for.”
Although Lee last appeared inside the Octagon in March 2020 in a fight against Charles Oliveira, which he lost by submission. In his last 6 UFC outings, he won 2 of them and lost 4 of them. He lost first to Tony Ferguson then Al Iaquinta, Rafael Dos Anjos, and the latest against Oliveira.
His wins came against Edson Barboza and Gregor Gillespie; despite not having a good time inside the Octagon he is confident to face the Eagle when he will come back from his retirement.
Kevin Lee believes he needs to build a name for himself to face Khabib
In 2017, Kevin Lee defeated Michael Chiesa that was a carrier breaking point for him and he believes that he will surpass what he did in 2017 and face ‘The Eagle’ now. Lee says, “I’ve been kinda straight away from everything, been shying away from everything,”
“It’s kind of an old Detroit mentality, kinda stay down until you come up. My last ‘come up’ season was 2017 when I had my last ‘come up’ season. So the next one, I’ll make sure I’ll give him something to shoot for. He’s still got that fire in him too, I know it. I’ve just got to give him something to shoot for.”
With the Lightweight division being stacked up with so many names to face Khabib Nurmagomedov when he will come back from retirement to do think Kevin Lee stands a chance to face him.
