Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier, both highly influential figures in the sport, hold deep respect for each other. Although they have faced off in a fight, this has not lessened their mutual admiration. In a display of this mutual respect, ‘The Eagle’ assisted ‘The Diamond’ by purchasing his UFC 302 custom fight kit for charity.

Poirier wore new custom floral shorts in his UFC 302 bout against Islam Makhachev in his latest shot at the divisional title. Although Poirier lost by submission in Round 5, he sought to make a positive out of the moment by listing his fight kit for auction. During a recent interview for MMA Junkie, Poirier revealed that his former foe was interested in purchasing the shorts.

According to Poirier, the lot was put up on eBay by his charity ‘The Good Fight Foundation‘. Unfortunately, the winning eBay bidder failed to pay for the fight kit after the auction was completed. That’s when Nurmagomedov stepped up. The Dagestani contacted the American through his manager Ali Abdelaziz and paid $30,000, along with the shorts, bandages, gloves, and the T-shirt in which Poirier entered the fight.

All of the proceeds from this transaction would go to Dustin Poirier’s charity, ’The Good Fight Foundation’. For the past five years, Poirier’s charity has given away backpacks filled with school supplies to children in the Lafayette Parish school system who need assistance. The Louisiana native is as soft-hearted outside the Octagon as he is tough inside it. However, Khabib Nurmagomedov is also no less when it comes to aiding the underprivileged people.

The Eagle was one of the most decorated UFC champions during his time. His reign at UFC ended with an undefeated fight record. Interestingly, apart from being an excellent fighter, Khabib Nurmagomedov was also a person with compassion for underprivileged people. In the year 2018, the Eagle went on a charity mission to Nigeria to help build medical facilities and help residents receive adequate drinking water.

Interestingly, a few fellow fighters slammed his charitable works and labeled them as a ‘scam’. However, the Eagle was far away from such distractions. He even posted a couple of photos on his socials (@khabib_nurmagomedov/ IG) from his journey in Nigeria. He also added that he planned to return to the African country to follow up his work.

It was my childhood dream and I was praying God to give an opportunity to help people in Africa.

Both Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s compassionate nature is loved by everyone. Even after such long careers, both UFC veterans have not stopped to do their bit for the underprivileged people. The Eagle has now filled up his father’s shoes and trains his fellow Dagestani brothers. Whereas, the Diamond awaits to compete one last time in the UFC.
