Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport of MMA after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, this October. The Dagestani man in the post-fight interview announced his retirement stating that he had promised his mother that he wouldn’t fight again without his late father by the ringside.

More recently, speaking to the media in Russia, Khabib revealed what he had said to Gaethje during the fight, that broke Gaethje, though Gaethje had some sparkling moments of his own in the fight. In the light hearted interview, Khabib unveiled how he saw ‘it’ in Justin Gaethje’s eyes.

“Justin Gaethje got me good a couple of times too. He got my leg but also connected with a right uppercut and a left hook. One of those moments, when he broke down, was when I noticed that he put everything into those two shots, and I asked him ‘That’s it? That’s everything you got?’. At that moment, I saw how he broke a little bit. I saw it in his eyes, that he stopped believing in himself, and his shots.” [via Young ‘n’ Faded MMA Society]

Khabib further revealed, “Gaethje flew in on Saturday, and fought next week, at the peak of acclimatization. So, during the fight when I noticed him taking deep breaths, I asked him, ‘You’re feeling the acclimatization, aren’t you? And, he was like, No, no, I’m not.” Khabib revealed that it was at that moment he realized that Justin was psychologically breaking. [via Young ‘n’ Faded MMA Society]
